I know how you feel. I had a pretty bad setback in January and it took months to feel good again. I think a lot of it had to do with my mental health at the time.

The tightness is gone entirely right now. Nothing has triggered that feeling in the past couple weeks. Let's hope it continues that way!

How long did your symptoms last the first time before they went away?

I m very happy for you that the tightness is gone! I found that to be the most annoying feeling. I m almost 2 months in now… the first time i had symptoms for over a year and 2 years later I was totally symptom free… for 2,5 years .. until now.. its like i have a cramp, tight feeling in my ears… :-(

Well that's a fantastic sign that it went away completely for over 2 years! I don't know how loud the party was, but I'm sure you will get back to where you were in no time. I hope that you find improvement week by week.
I know it's hard, but try your best to stay positive. I've found that the tight feeling worsens a lot when I'm stressed, anxious, or depressed.

So the setback in january also took months for you to settle down ? I m afraid im starting over again from the beginning i will try to stay positive. I dont have tinnitus or hearing loss.. its just that injured tight feeling

Yeah someone blew a dog whistle right next to my left ear... that triggered it back in January. I started feeling a bit better around late April. But I was also going through a painful separation with my ex during those months, and I'm sure that contributed a lot to the severity of my symptoms -- Hence the "stay positive" mindset!

I'm really glad that you don't have tinnitus. The injured feeling is really not that much better to deal with, though. I don't think you're starting from the beginning. This is just another setback. You have been here before and you will get through this again, just like I have.
I'm sure you will heal quicker than the first time, too!

The first couple months are always the hardest. Week by week it will get easier. The fact that it felt a little better for a day is a good sign!
It's weird, last Sunday when we got talking I started to feel a slight tightness in my left ear. Just thinking about it and talking about it can trigger that sensation. But it went away completely once I got my mind off of it.

Haha no prob, it was a neat observation. Going on vacation might be just the thing you need right now. Might help you get your mind off of it!

I m also on a low dose of clonazepam and its really helping me for the tight injured feeling. I went to a doctor here in Belgium who specialises in acoustic trauma. He said to take it for 3 months to relax the muscles. How are you these days? Still more improvements?

That's good to hear! I really hope that works for you! Just need to be more careful after the muscle relaxes, which shouldn't be a problem for you since you were symptom free for a long time.
I'm doing pretty well these days. Right now I'm rehabbing a back and knee injury which is child's play compared to the acoustic trauma injury. Just gonna take it easy for the rest of the summer!

That's awesome to hear!! I hope that you continue to improve as you taper the medication.
I'm doing well, preparing for a series of concerts starting next week. Going down to New York for the first time, too. Need to invest in some better earplugs..

My left ear no.. it feels like it's 90% better and I only notice it a few times a day. The T is still there but I guess my brain is getting better at ignoring it. I really notice it when I'm really stressed.
And yeah, definitely wearing earplugs to concerts from now on!!

Do you find yourself worrying about it more now that you're coming off the meds? That could play a role in it feeling tighter again

Hey, I'm doing great! Sorry to hear that you've had some rough days recently. Can you think of anything that's happened the past couple days that may have contributed to your setback?

I m glad to hear your doing great! No not really. I m avoiding music so i dont know what could be happening? Maybe its part of the healing proces? I m almost 5 months in

Overusing ear plugs could potentially make things worse. I remember avoiding all sounds and overusing ear plugs and my ear never really got better. It took gradual exposure to sounds and using earplugs less when I saw results over time. But your case might be different

I still get that crackling but it's rare these days. For me it comes on if I'm having a really stressful day and I've been exposed to a loud noise. It goes away the next morning, though

Hey! I've been doing a lot better. The T is still there but I've adjusted to it to the point where I hardly notice it. My ear feels more "durable" now, too. I've got a couple concerts this Spring that I'm really looking forward to.

    How are you?

That's so good to hear! And congratulations! Haha yeah it's probably best to keep the volume down at your wedding. Yes, the tight feeling is gone for me, too. The tightness/fullness was tied to some anxiety/depression that I was experiencing during the Summer, but I've been doing a lot better since then. Crazy how much your mental state can affect a condition like this.
