Well, gentamicin is an aminoglycoside, which are known to be ototoxic. However I have used a spray which contains neomycin (also an aminoglycoside) for several outer ear infections in the last 10 years, and it has never affected my hearing or tinnitus.
Ultimately, I don't think enough can be absorbed through the ear drum to make it a major problem (as long as there aren't any perforations; but these are rare).
Still, the medical community seriously need to get their act together and start prescribing non-ototoxic medications for ear infections. Sh*t's absurd.
Thanks @Damocles@makeyourownluck the doctor said in front of the eardrum should be all fine, but I refused and I'm going to try a lotion with cortison now...
