Yikes. I'm sorry. Most people just can't wrap thier heads around how severe this shit can be. It's hard when your spouse is one of those people. Hang in there. We know the truth

Hi @Ngo13, Everyone around me says the same exact thing to me too. Always chalking it up to mental health issues. I’ve even been encouraged to go near a fire truck without ear protection.

Unfortunately, they won’t understand unless they’ve experience it themselves.Sorry to hear. I hope this isn’t hurting the relationship too much. Maybe in due time,ur husband will come around.Perhaps show him this site?

The frustration when your close ones don't understand. We know we have anxiety because of this, but that doesn't mean the symptoms are created by our anxiety. Hyperacusis is a painful, and those loud noises (and not so loud) feel like knives cutting through our ears.

@ZFire He doesn't like that I go on here b/c he thinks it negatively reinforces my tinnitus anxiety. It's frustrating that everyone blames mental health & then is dismissive. Like if I could turn it off/heal by being positive & happy, trust me I would! I'd be the most positive person in the world. Although there are people that get T from stress, so idk. I wish we knew more. These are just such stupid conditions.

Many people around me (specifically my parents) reacted that way at first. It really added to my distress as I felt I was being constantly gaslit / told it was in my head. What helped turn them around to some degree was showing them scientific articles on hyperacusis and acoustic shock. The Norena articles especially I think explain well what has happened in our bodies.

So sorry to hear that, is difficult with people around. My partner sadly got Tinnitus too, we did got it very similar time so she totally understand me and support me from day one. My friend son the other hand, is totally different, nobody understand how difficult is to live with ears issues

These are stupid conditions indeed @Ngo13. It’s so frustrating trying to convey the complexities of our ear issues to close ones only for them to not understand any of it and then downright dismiss it.

I hate how sophisticated tinnitus can get. I wish it were a much more simpler thing for everyone. Something that was constant and never spikes. That way, it’d be much easier to manage at least.
