Had a series of 3 shots about the same time after onset as you. Not sure it helped much, but no worsening! Uncomfortable procedure but worth a try imo.

@ErikaS, I had IT dexamethasone injections back in 2010. I can’t remember if they helped or not. I didn’t think ENTs did them anymore. I was considering a IT PRP injection if I could find a ENT to do them. I mainly have annoying static in my left ear.

@ErikaS, can I ask where you got your Dex shots done and what doctor? I’m in Minnesota and last three ENTs did not have anything to offer me. ENT in India does PRP injections for tinnitus and hearing loss for $300/shot but that’s a long way to travel.

@just1morething hey there, I am working with an ENT through ENT & Allergy, I am located in Pittsburgh PA but have read they are all over the place. Check to see if in your area!

@ErikaS, Hi, sorry you got tinnitus at such a young age. I think my noise in left ear was from barotrauma on flight way back in 2008. I had fluid in my left ear. I’ve been calling ENT’s in the Twin Cities. I had my TMJ fixed but didn’t affect my noise. Once in a while my noise goes away but restarts upon awakening. I hope your Dex shots help you.

I got a single shot and I'm not sure if it made any difference. Over time my tinnitus has gone down overall with occasional "worsenings" (short of a spike imo) that last a day or so.

I got 3 Dex shots back in 2010 and then went to Shea clinic in 2011 and had more injections. I’m not sure either one helped. I would like to try a PRP injection someplace.

@blamingeverything my ENT is offering to do up to 3, so we shall see. Glad to hear your T has improved though. I feel like mine has made the TINIEST improvements lately, but so hard to tell from on moment to the next when it’s multi tonal and reactive.

@just1morething do you know where someone could try PRP injections ? Is it recommended for a hearing loss ?

@ErikaS, I think @scotty03874 had them done in Florida someplace. I know a doctor in India does them daily for tinnitus and hearing loss. If I find someone in the US I will let you know. I hope you’re having a better day today. I’m a hissing away today. Sometimes I think it’s related to my upper neck..

One thing you’ll have to do is get used to the change, it’s normal for it to fluctuate. Still drives me nuts sometimes but it’s in such a benign way compared to how it first was.

@blamingeverything thanks, yeah this is very hard to “get used to”, when it’s multi tone and reactive.
Did/do you have multiple tones that are/were reactive? How protective against sound were you?

I'm not sure reactive is the right term for mine. It reacts to different things (stress, sleep, alcohol, marijuana) but not to specific sounds. I have multiple tones that change from day to day. Just had to get used to that variability. There's a range of possibility, at first that part scared me.

I started out more protective than I am now. I wear protection for loud stuff (>80-85 db). But not for everyday stuff.

@CRGC i got the first shot in R ear. Not very painful at all. Now just dealing with the fullness, but the worst is increased T with my high hiss and tone sound. I know this is normal to happen. Did this happen to you and did it calm down in a few days?

@ErikaS Happy to hear the injection wasn't too painful! Every time I got the shot, my T increased temporarily and the tone became sharper. But that always subsided within 24-48h. I blamed it on the fact that my ear was blocked (with the liquid cortisone).

@CRGC the hardest part was trying not to swallow for 20 mins! I was honest with him and said my swallow triggered 3x and I couldn’t help it lol he checked and fluid still filled the middle ear so thankfully no issue.
It’s better/less when I am up and walking around, I tried laying down and whoa that was a no right now lol
