We have had some hot days here already and we have minisplits in our home since it doesn’t have duct work (mid century modern from 1960s) and they are basically like big fans blowing… awful on my reactive T, literally no idea what I’m going to do all summer.

@ErikaS I always thought those things were so cool and heard they were efficient. I never would of imagined they would be loud though. Then again I never thought I would consider the air velocity going into a central unit loud either but tinnitus lol.

@ErikaS I agree, it's crazy to think how much limited funding tinnitus has got over the past few decades considering how much it effects people. It honestly seems tinnitus research is just picking up over the last decade.

I am now going through a spike/worsening that may or may not been noise induce so I’m not advising you do all those things. Did all of that without hearing protection I might add. In hindsight it’s not the wisest idea and I won’t make those mistakes again

@Hardwell Mine was caused by acoustic trauma, someone shot a shotgun on the side of me before I could put on hearing protection. This condition has just been so traumatic even if my tinnitus calms down I will live so cautiously. I'm fine with giving up 90% of my hobbies just to be able and enjoy a cup of coffee outside in silence again lol.

@gameover I do not have Hypercusis thankfully. My tinnitus has pretty much progressively gotten worse since getting it 6 months ago not really sure why maybe inflammation. Thankfully the last month it seems to have been staying constant though. All in all everyday is a struggle and I am just a former shell of who I use to be but what else can we do.

@Bmore1234 Thank you for this information. I have read that it actually does help some people. The understanding of Tinnitus is just so much in its infancy. I was watching a video earlier from an ENT that was saying there is research that proves caffeine and salt doesn't make tinnitus worse. He said research shows that a high carb intake is the only nutrition change that can effect tinnitus.

It's not coffee that spikes some people's tinnitus, it's caffeine.

And if you are one of the lucky ones whose tinnitus responds to caffeine in this way, you will probably find the same effect is achieved with the use of any other stimulant also.

@DeanD Yeah I was reading your profile and seen how you got a spike from the molding process is what has been making me second guess getting them. Thats why I was kind of wondering if some people had the same experience as you. Seems pretty unlikely to me because the process is not loud and the molding shouldn't press against the ear drum. But I really don't want to take any chances and have any setbacks.

@Ryan Scott tbh everything Im getting at the moment seems to be rare.
My t was caused by microsuction in the ear canal, it may be my ear canal now is sensitive so although there was hardly any noise of the moulding it triggered the original cause and perhaps sensitivity not present in most cases.

I agree now before I do anything it forces me to do a risk analysis of "how this will affect my tinnitus." Personally, I would rather skip the activity and not take the risk especially being I am young.

Did anyone take time away from their career when first getting tinnitus?

@Strawberryblonde Well done for soldiering on! Do you have methods that help you cope at work?

Do you think your work could be making your T worse or better?

Being a lone worker helps as I can control the sounds I'm exposed too and I suffer with bad anxiety/ocd so keeping myself occupied and mind off my new T level helped a a lot as I don't hear it when I'm occupied @Jupiterman

It is definetly hard. But its not needed to stay postive all the time. Just to be strong most of the time and make the best out of it

Exactly how I feel, after 6 years of studying hard, one day after my final capstone presentation, 3 months before starting my first full time job as an engineer, this “EEEEE” joined me forever.

Alright so saltwater fishing is pretty much my life. But do ear plugs and earmuffs provide enough hearing protection due to wind noises?

When I go walking along a windy coast large peltor mufflers along with air plugs are usually suitabke enough, and I have sound reactive tinnitus

Another long noneventful weekend. At least the wind was blowing pretty good today and was able to get in a little 4-mile light jog.

The best thing about this community is that people actually understand what you are going through. Much unlike the general public.
