Hello! My name is Abby and I am 12 years old. I THINK I have tinnitus, 2 Weeks ago on a Sunday, was drinking some Costa, Later that day, we was wrapping Christmas Presents. My heart felt weird, so I went to drink some water and then a few hours later, In my Right Ear, I heard a stomping noise (it was actually a heartbeat but I thought it sounded like stomping) I had that for about a week(I tried using a q-tip it stopped for a few hours then came back), and then I caught a cough, it would happen at night. Then I realised it sounded like a heartbeat and matched my heartbeat rhythm. Since this Friday, it sometimes happens in the day and when I tilt my head in a specific position (if I look straight ahead of me it will happen but then if I turn my head to the side it will stop, if I make a double chin it will happen and if I tilt my head it will happen worse) Also last week on thursday I went on a plane (I was going to scotland) and nothing happened. Sometimes It will happen when I yawn or when I swallow or when I open my mouth like quickly. It still sounds like a heartbeat and its loud and it still matches my heartbeat.. Oh yeah also rarely I will get headaches when I hear the heartbeat.

Btw it can last for AGES like 5-15 minutes.

So here is my question: What are my chance that it will fade away?? Should I be worried? Please do not tell me that I will get used to it, and so and so. Cause I won't. I want silence and my life back again. Is it normal that the heartbeat can last up to 2 weeks before it dissapears? Also it is because I have a cough?

I just feel like crying right now because it is so annoying and it wont stop.

      please help

I don't think it's tinnitus...Tinnitus is a constant ringing...We're you exposed to very loud noise?

Poor thing a 12 year old having to deal with T. But you are not alone for being young like that with T. This member gets T since 12 years old and getting better. Hope you learn some inspiration from him:

Also from your description, you may have some element of Pulsatile T as it goes with the heartbeat. @Karen is our senior member here with good experience with PT. Perhaps she can give you some advice.

Your description also gives hint that TMJ may be an issue due to the movement of the jaw seeming to affect your T. You may book a referral visit to a TMJ specialist. Google the term or search TT for it if you don't know what TMJ can do to cause T. Good luck and God bless

      Hi @Abbiexo,

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been afflicted with what sounds like pulsatile tinnitus. PT is a very unpredictable condition, and there are many possible causes. I have PT, too, in my right ear only. Mine is constant, and sounds like my heartbeat; sometimes, it sounds more like a drumbeat than anything else.

The encouraging thing to me is that yours isn't constant. Also, you are very young. It is possible that yours may be a temporary condition that will gradually fade in time. The best thing to do would be to give it a little time, to see if things improve. Have you told your parents that you have this condition? I'm sure they will be sympathetic and supportive, if they understand what you are experiencing.

Billie has given you some great suggestions; it is possible that yours could be caused by a jaw problem (TMJ). You could go to a TMJ specialist, or a dentist, to be checked out, to see if that could be a possible cause.

Another question: Have you had any previous problems with your right ear, such as ear infections, etc. ? That could be a possible cause. My PT started in my right ear because I already had mild tinnitus in that ear, due to loud noise damage. Then, I took a blood pressure drug that set it off. Yours could have started because your right ear was already sensitive, and something triggered it to begin pulsating.

If yours doesn't go away within a few weeks, then it might be worthwhile to visit a doctor to see if you have any underlying conditions that might be a possible cause.

Please do keep in touch with us, and let us know how you are doing. We can offer you support and lots of suggestions. The main thing is to stay calm, try to get enough sleep, and watch your diet. All of these things can help your PT symptoms.

      Best wishes and hugs,
      Karen

@Karen, I woke up and its quieter, but it is raining heavily. but, a few days ago it was raining heavily and my PT was REALLY LOUD. so I think my PT could be going, and also I haven't had anything wrong with my right or left ear.
But I feel so weird right now. My head hurts (mild) but I'm not hearing my heartbeat and I get headaches sometimes when I hear my heartbeat and I can't explain this one but like a few minutes ago I had a mild ache, its like a mild ache underneath my tongue but its gone now.

EDIT: The rains stopped now and the PT is still quieter!!:) I will update this at night
EDIT 2: When I swallow, I can't hear my heartbeat anymore but its only when I open my mouth quickly and like REALLY big. Like if i'm eating I can't hear it but if I open it REALLY big then I can hear it and also when I yawn i can't hear it! i think its going ;) thank you guys for your help! ill update at night and tomorrow. :) and also its been a few minutes after rain stopped and T is getting a tiny bit louder :(

      Hi, Abbie,

I'm glad you told your mum about the tinnitus. However, even if she has it, too, hers could be due to a different cause. Maybe you can discuss it further with her when she returns from work.

Since yours seems to change when you open your mouth widely, it could really have to do with your jaw. If it doesn't go away, maybe your mum could take you to a dentist to get your jaw checked.

Also, for some of us, our tinnitus gets worse when it is raining and muggy. We think it has to do with changes in barometric pressure outside.

Good luck, and have a good discussion with your mum!

      Best wishes,
      Karen

      Hi Abby,
A few tips to help you if TMJ,
Keep off chewing gum and hard and chewy sweets.
If eating Apple's,cut them in half so don't over stretch your jaw.
Try not to yawn and over stretch your jaw.
Cut meat up small so don't need to chew as much.
All this should help settle your tinnitus if down to chewing......lots of love glnis

Hello. I'm thinking it could be an allergy, on the day it started to happen, I went to have costa and I had a christmas lattee (not sure which one) and I had the one with the new type of beans so I'm thinking it could be an allergy to that. I've told my mum and she said if it's not stopped by next week then she will take me to the doctors.
