I can't find any recent news on AF243, though this video has been uploaded a few hours ago:

Its also been talked about on this page

I emailed the company a month ago and they said

"Thank you for your inquiry into AF243. This drug is a new chemical entity and must undergo toxicology and metabolism testing before it is ready for human testing. This will take at least 18 -24 months." Seems a bit long for metabolic testing. I'll probably sign up for one of their phases.

I've been keeping an eye on the company and this drug for awhile. There is information on AF243 here http://cordis.europa.eu/result/rcn/193425_en.html

This has also been discussed recently here. See https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/inner-ear-hair-cell-regeneration-—-maybe-we-can-know-more.3131/page-77#post-242124 and the following posts.

That said, the web site linked to in the original post was active at least as far back as August 24, 2014 so that site is not exactly new news: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/inner-ear-hair-cell-regeneration-—-maybe-we-can-know-more.3131/page-16#post-61699

If tinnitus is more in the brain, will fixing the auditory nerves do anything?

Dones any know how AF243 is able to exclusively target nerves within the ear? From the link below they describe effects to middle brain nerves from a similar process. Since there primary product is an oral drug I was curious how they did this. Have other labs or companies tried Dendrogenins? Even results from non hearing treatment might be informative side effect wise.

One would think repairing auditory nerves would cause neurons to settle, so a drug like this gives me hope

The video mentions growth of neuronal processes. I have no more than a basic grasp on this stuff, but is this a good sign for otoxic tinnitus sufferers?

A very interesting video A new strategy for hearing loss, which does not involve stem cells. And without any toxicity. I'm sure that in 7-10 years, there is a medication that solves a lot of the problem of hearing loss and tinnitus. In addition, we must bear in mind that I am sure that new strategies and molecules will appear during these years. I think that the optimist realistic here in the next 10 years, so that there is a treatment to our condition, that if it does not cure tinnitus and deafness at least make it much smoother !

Same here! They must have pulled the plug on it. Because that's the official website. The project actually ended 2016-05-31 so it does not surprise me. I have seen a number of these EU funded project websites go down once the project is completed. Some have been archived with the Internet Archive, but this one was not, I have checked.

      Project page on EC website:
      http://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/104171_en.html

Affichem is the company that coordinated the project, and they are likely to be the ones leading the development and commercialization of therapeutics based on the research findings.

I don't know if I am the only one but this is the drug I am really excited about as opposed to Frequency Therapeutics' approach. They're actually REPAIRING the broken auditory nerves and it looks like the medication was induced orally through animal models. Very excited about their approach!

Absolutely agree with @Cam Cam! I'm really hoping we'll hear more from Affichem this year. Of course, we can't know yet when (or if) they'll be able to bring this drug to the market but I can't help but feel hopeful that this drug might be available in ten years. Also, because it's a French company, I'm hoping that the price for it will be affordable.

I just want to know why most hearing loss research centers focusing on curing hearing loss don't even mention a possibility that this might alleviate tinnitus.

Is the scientific consensus that tinnitus is a separate neurological issue and that repairing hair cells, nerve fibers and synapses would not cure or even put a dent in tinnitus? Or are they just not sure?

I think because if they fix the hearing loss issues, T might be fix with it? I’m not entirely sure I’m assuming that’s why

I sent Affichem an email asking about AF243 treating tinnitus and hyperacusis and I am still waiting for a reply.

I am really hopeful for there success and progress.

Mechanisms of tinnitus -- a story of men,...

Dr. Roland Schaette stated the possibility of repairing auditory functionality and hair cell nerve fiber connection as a possible future therapeutic for tinnitus and hyperacusis. Affichem and Frequency Therapeutics seem like a ray of hope that's getting closer every day.

I don't know about Affichem.. they have 3 products... skin tanning, anti-cancer and hearing loss. Each one of those is huge enough to entirely dedicate a company to and yet they are doing all three completely unrelated things. It doesn't seem like they are very focused and it doesn't seem like they are very big either (not big enough to make a quality corporate website anyhow). At least Frequency Therapeutics is concentrating on one thing.

At least, very few is know aboit their candidate.
