      Hello to everyone..

I'm just sitting here waiting to get sleepy enough to go and "face the music" in a few minutes when I go to bed. Ears are ringing to high hell right now. I just had a thought and wanted to get others idea or maybe find out if someone experienced something similar.

I'm precisely 1 week into my "T" journey. Got out of the shower and it just kind of started when I messed with my itchy ear. It seems like the pressure from putting my finger over my ear and wiggling it a bit to stop the itching flipped a switch. I've only seen my GP as of now. Will be going to get some testing next week. Ears were clear, no redness or signs of infection, which is what I thought it was because I used to get so many in my earlier years. Haven't had any issues with loud noises ever in my life (I'm 52) but I have had short (less than a day) bouts with T here and there. It just went away. A couple nurse practitioners and an ENT that's are friends of the family said it would "probably" go away in a couple weeks. Not sure what the reasoning for that is, but I hope they're right. In any case, being the impatient type, I want answers. I'm in the fortunate position, if there is such a place with this issue, of being able to go to a major medical center and walk in to see specialists without going thru referrals and all that. I can have every test done in a couple days, at least that's the plan.

I've been reading a lot about what's caused T for others. I've taken Wellbutrin 150mg for several years, never an issue. I've had many ear infections in the past but none for 10 years. Not been around any loud noises, and at least I don't think I have any hearing loss. No ear issues when taking antibiotics that I've ever noticed.

But I did recently quit smoking about 2 months ago. In the past when I've quit, I've done it many times, after a few days, my sinuses were clear as a bell and I felt great. I think I'd developed an allergy to it. Being able to breath and have tons of mad energy were the main reason I quit. This last time though, I didn't have that experience. I was always getting clogged up, snorting decongestants to be able to breath, and basically still feeling kinda crappy. The only difference I can figure from the last times I've quit, is that now we have two cats in the house.

So, call me crazy if I am, but my idea was that since I'm not smoking anymore, I've been more susceptible to allergens (namely cats), which has caused a lot of stuffyness, and set off my tinnitus. I was told I was allergic to cats when I was a kid, but I've never really had an issue with them.

Anyway.. these are the kinds of things going thru my head right now.

If anyone has any comments I'd love to hear them.

I'm off to face the music...

      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Wellbutrin/Bupropion
My tinnitus was correlated with my taking an increased dosage of Wellbutrin (300mg XL) after having been on 150mg XL for 4 weeks (with no problems). My ENT thinks that it caused the tinnitus. My ringing went down a bit after getting off of the drug, but hasn't gone away (after 3 months). Talk with your doc about taking a break from Wellbutrin if you're concerned that it (or any other drug) might be the cause for you.
