Hello! I am a student living with tinnitus. I first got it a year ago when my (then) friend hit me in the ear DURING CLASS... and I've had it since in my left ear. Staff didnt do anything and the student wasnt punished for permanently damaging my ear :). Months later, I've successfully built up a 'block-out' to it.

A few months ago, I was in a car crash where the side airbag hit me in the ear so hard with pressure so great that I got tinnitus in the right ear as well.

I was hit by a 16 YEAR OLD DRIVER WHO GOT HER LICENSE TWENTY DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT SHE CAUSED. (she ran a red light into our car). Her family paid for next to nothing, not the ENT visit, not the new car we needed to get, it was like last time but worse.

My previous 'block-out' which worked all the time save for painful situations, has left me and I am here with two whistles in my ear at all times. My 'friends' make jokes about it whenever i protect my ears, or whenever i am annoyed that theyve hit my ears. I am going to a tinnitus specialist soon, and i am optimistic.

Are there any people whove been in a similar situation as me? (preferably kids and/or people who got their tinnitus via other people).

I feel very alone in my struggle and I love reading these boards knowing im not alone in all this.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your struggle with T. If not enough people respond here in the Introduction, you may want to post your story to the general or main support forum. You can also search TT with words like 'car crash accident' and you will see many prior discussions before. In the mean time, you can try to mask your T if you have trouble with it. Take good care. God bless.

@helloyall My tinnitus was caused by a careless coworker that blasted my ears. After doing so he only cared about not getting in trouble for it which of course he didn't. He's an adult in his early 50's and a senior coworker, I don't think him being older makes it any better. It really is difficult to deal with when it's someone else that directly causes your tinnitus.

As for the other driver that hit you, you could pursue legal action. If the accident was 100% their fault you should have a case.

I got mine at the Gym when one of those bodybuilder types dropped his weights just behind me. I used to have nightmares and probably I'll never forget the idiot's face.

Regardless of the reason, you did it once. I bet you can do it again. Do whatever worked in the first time and be patient with yourself.

      Best,
