Beeping Through Pressure on the Scalp? Does Anyone Know the Phenomenon?

Moderate pressure on the scalp around the tinnitus ear makes a loud beeping that resembles the tinnitus beeping, - or is even louder. Pressure on the scalp of the healthy ear does not make any beeping.

I don't know if it's partly responsible for the permanent tinnitus.

Exactly the same thing happens to me when I press those areas. and I get an extra tone as well when I turn my head both sides or bend it, also when I push my chin. In my case, I suspect it all comes from my neck area. I’ve four cervical disk herniations plus degeneration joint disease in all the disks, so nerves and muscles can’t be in an optimal condition neither. Although I don’t think my neck is fully responsible for my permanent tinnitus, I wouldn’t be surprise if it made it worst. Osteopaths don’t help and doctors don’t know. Anything concerning tinnitus is always very discouraging, a shoulders shrug is the usual answer to my questions if I ask. Anyway, feedback will be welcome, of course, and here is my big thank you in advance.

Generally speaking, a definite description of symptoms rather leads to the pychiatric corner.....
Here, on the other hand, you can say that pressing the ear region "beeps" without being considered crazy...

 

Maybe I'm one of the few people with this symptom...

 

Is it related to your Anterior Temporalis Muscle? Maybe that has an effect.

 

Tinnniger, oh, no, not the psychiatric corner at all. Why? We don’t need a psychiatric, it's a somatic symptom. IMO, a neurologist might be more appropriated, don't you agree? By the way, we are not just a few, I tell you, there are many others in our same situation.

On Thursday, I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon and I’m going to ask him his opinion about this. He must know something about it, or should at least. I’ll keep you informed.

 

Yes, probably you are right, thank you, but, why does it happen? That's what we would like to know but no body seams to have a convincing answer.

 

Well, I don't really know if the sounds have always been there due to pressure, or if they were only noticed after the development of tinnitus.

I asked my neurosurgeon and he didn’t have a reply for my question, he just said that science hasn’t a reply for everything and that somatic tinnitus is one of the things. He discarded my neck problem being the cause of mine though, but I do not agree. A MRI was ordered as a normal procedure in my cervical condition. Nihil sub sole novum, my friend, we will have to live with the doubt till science has a reply for us. Best regards.

Do you have "tones" when your head moves?

 

When I force it extremely to the left or right, or when I bend it, yes, I do, otherwise no. I also get it if I extra open my mouth when I yawn or when putting pressure with force on my skull base.

 

Do you have "regular" tinnitus, too?
