Looking for advice and opinions on the best sleep aid for tinnitus. I am currently going through a spike due to sleep depravity. I can never sleep early, almost borderline insomniac.

Open to suggestions of medications, vitamins, natural methods?
      Anything is appreciated :(

Melatonin + lots of exercise has worked for me. De-cluttering that mind is key to getting good sleep. Having a comfortable sleeping area + bed is crucial. I have always had poor sleeping habits (over 20+ years). Now, I have been able to make sleeping a joy and not a nightmare, like i have had majority of my life.

I was probably taking melatonin for sleep close to 2-3 years, now I use no pills, and I sleep well. I am always training and exercising and my stress levels are low....

I have to agree on the Melatonin.
      On prescription in the U.K.
I get Circadin (2mg Melatonin tablets)
split the pill in half, and take just 1mg of it.
That works a treat for me.

Passion flower, hops, Californian poppy, valerian, skull cap, rhodiola, mugwort, washed down with strong beer. Don’t hold back. Go big on herbs.

I agree with Fish wholeheartedly here. You want good sleep you have to work for it I’m afraid.

There is a good product out there by Flora called Deep Sleep.
It is a strong extract of herbs such as passion flower, chamomile, skullcap etc....worth a try.

Just take a shooter sized dose before bedtime.

Also over the counter sleep aid such as ZzzQuil works surprisingly well even at half dose and it is non addictive.

Not for me - but bear in mind my dosage is literally just 1mg.

If you take a dose that is high I believe you might induce a headache, from what I have heard?

Some people take 5mg or more.

I take 2mg Circadin every night before going to bed. No side effects. In addition I listen to ‚RelaxMelodies’ App which I bought in the AppStore for sleep. Did cost a bit but it’s worth that money .

Just recently started using Charlotte's Web Maximum Strength Hemp Oil. This product really helps clear that anxiety rush feeling in the brain and I sleep almost six hours straight. First week - so we will see. I bought it at a local pharmacy and spoke at length with the sales person helping me.

It was recommended by a retired surgeon.

No weird after effects or drowsy morning wake up feelings. I actually feel more at ease and clear minded.

I tried melatonin and it affected my hyperacusis in a very bad way. But it seems to work for many people.

      Hi @nicole m,

I use melatonin, and it helps a lot. But nothing works better for me than daily mHBOT (I have a home unit). -- I hope you can find something that helps you soon...

      Hey! Whats an mHBOT?

I googled it and it says it's a hyperbaric chamber? I'm probably incorrect.

      Hi @nicole m,

I've made a number of posts on a main HBOT thread describing some of my perspectives and experiences. I just did a search, and came up with the following 7 posts. There's a lot of other good information on that thread by other posters as well, including some that had good success using it for their tinnitus. I've found so far that while my tinnitus improvement(s) have been somewhat marginal, my sleep improvements have been HUGE. Which I believe likely is responsible for the tinnitus improvements I was able to make. -- Best!

@nicole m I always thought that also until I had a lengthy talk with a retired surgeon who recommended the product to me. It has been a few weeks and I do think the hemp product helps that anxiety surge feeling in my brain at night. I am sleeping better at least getting to sleep...and I notice a clarity in my brain. Hard to describe.

There is no "high" feeling like smoking pot from what I remember from back in the day....

I've had good luck with ZzzQuil PURE Zzzs (which has to be the worst name for a product ever). It's essentially a gummy that contains .5mg melatonin and some other herbs (lavender, valerian root, chamomile and lemon balm). It's non-addictive. I get deep, uninterrupted sleep using this supplement, on par with taking NyQuil. On the rare occasion that I get woken up early, I still feel rested and not too groggy.

I used melatonin a few times at the 2.5 mg dose when things were worse. Can double it if needed.

Try some green tea also which is an antiinflammatory. I drink 1 to 2 cups a day.

12.5 to 25 mg of Sleep Aid (doxylamine) works great for me. Just have to ask the pharmacist to prescribe it to you.

I still have trouble sleeping and I want to try something here but I find it hard to concentrate. I bought a new pillow but last night I rolled over on my sides (more than usual). My left ear is really sore now. :( I already have seen an ENT. There was nothing he could do for me. :(

I have to solve the sleep problem plus hope my ears heal so I can not have pain. I think that is not normal even for this site. :(

Last night I tried some 'Melissa Dream' sleep aid from my local health food store which contains Lemon Balm, L-Theanine & Magnesium and it seemed to help me get to sleep quite well - It says to take about an hour before bedtime but after half an hour I was ready to go to sleep. I tried Valerian a few weeks ago but it seemed to make me feel quite anxious the next day so I'm hoping this could be a better supplement. I asked my Doctor for something to sleep and he gave me some Zopiclone but after reading up on them I was too scared to take them.
