My tinnitus started about a month ago. I’m not handling it well. My ENT is not filling me with confidence that this is something he can help me manage. I’ve spent most of the last month depressed and occasionally suicidal.

He prescribed me nortriptyline. I’ve only been taking it for a week.

I’ve read that there is research that suggests antidepressants may reduce neural plasticity that will make it harder for me to naturally habituate to the tinnitus over time.

Has anybody heard this or am I reading into this too much.

      Never heard of this.
Do you feel any different after a week of Nortriptyline?

No, I don’t feel any different yet. He told me it could take up to a month for the nortriptyline to take effect.

I’m about five weeks into the nortriptyline. I do think it’s helping a bit. I’m on what’s essentially a pediatric dose. We are talking about going to a low adult dose, but I’m not sure what I want to do. Part of me wants to quit it completely and see if I can manage. The other part wants to up the dose because I do feel it’s helping.
