Can Tinnitus Go Away After 2 Years If It's Caused by Neck and Jaw?

I've had tinnitus now for over 1.5 years due to my neck and jaw being messed up. I've been to a upper cervical chiropractor and she has helped me with both my neck and jaw and my tinnitus may be getting slightly better.

However I was reading that if you have tinnitus for 2 years it's considered permanent.

Does this apply to my tinnitus, caused by my neck/jaw?
Or if my cause is corrected, will my tinnitus go away completely?

@Greg Sacramento has so much information on this.

Has the volume reduced any since getting these treatments?

Maybe it’s the optimist in me but you never know? If that’s truly the cause then it could well go away or at least reduce to being barley audible, T is so unpredictable so I wouldn’t give up hope yet.

It might be rare for it to go after 2 years, but no one really knows. Look in the success stories forum because I remember one woman who had TMJ tinnitus that went after 4 years.

when and if the situation gets better the T should get better. Nothing is necessarily permanent.

I don't buy into that theory for a moment. You may want to check out THIS POST which describes how a man from London got rid of his tinnitus after 14 years by using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). -- Best!

I've been going to this upper cervical chiropractor for about 7 weeks now or 10 appointments. She has improved my neck range of motion, pain in neck, teeth used to touch first on the left side when closing jaw. I no longer am lifting my neck up literally 200 times a day to relieve a kink in it, I probably only do that now 15-20 times a day...

Also for the last 3-4 weeks my tinnitus hasn't been annoying as much. Fewer days of it being annoying. Before it was annoying maybe 55% of the time and in the last month it's probably down to 45% of the time being annoying (I keep track).

She recommended massage therapy and I start that this week. 1 hour sessions to relieve muscle stress.

That’s great news Mathew, when you say it’s less annoying would you say the volume itself has decreased or that fact you feel more relaxed due to all the muscle manipulation?

As I said if this is the cause of your Tinnitus and it is slowly decreasing there is nothing to say it won’t continue to fade. I would say the longer you have Tinnius the less of a chance it has to go BUT there are stories of people having it 2 years plus and it disappearing or at least fading to barley audible.

Keep us updated of your progress, I’m hoping it’ll fade completely for you the more muscle therapy you have or at least the volume decreases dramatically (though from what I’ve read about this I’m under the impression it’s a long road so keep it up)

Wishing you the best of luck with your journey my man.

If your cause is corrected, your tinnitus will go away completely.

The problem: Your named cause (neck or jaw) is far too imprecise to deduce a cause from it.

Why should a neck or jaw problem cause tinnitus?

Because I woke up with neck, jaw and tinnitus issues out of the blue the same day.

I would just say less annoying days in the last month. My tinnitus is there everyday, but up until this month it's been louder and annoying 55% of the days. 45% of the days it's still there, but it's sooo low it doesn't effect me. This month it's only been annoying 45% of the days.

Keep on with the therapy and see if it keeps improving, it also sounds like you may be starting to habituate/get used to it.

      Keep us updated.

I had my 2nd massage today, and he worked my Suboccipital muscles and what a big difference it made. Maybe onto something here.

I'm sure you did... How many massages or time do you think it will take to get them back to normal... I feel pretty good after it, even though I've been out of chiropractic "adjustment" for a week now.

Anyone know why my neck pain jumps all over the place and doesn't stay in one place?
