I was too tired and on anxiety meds to notice. It was there probably fro 20 minutes before I woke up. I am panicking and out of my mind now. The canal opening is right in front of my window.

This big machine was in front of my window for a good 20 minutes working on canal drainage.

I AM LOSING MY MIND. MY TINNITUS IS SO LOUD.

Help me please. Undo this. I can't handle this

      @lifeisover,
Try not to panic about every loud sound because not all sounds are harmful or you will get a phobia.
Just try to stay calm and put some relaxing music on low and chill out for a bit.
Have something to eat and go for a nice walk.
Anxiety alone can spike tinnius .
I know the sound of Tinnitus is hard for you as it takes away our quietness and inflicts us with a invasive sound we can not control but try not let your emotion run wild and panic.
      love glynis

Sounds like you had tinnitus since 2012...is this a sudden spike you are experiencing because the heavy equipment sound?

Anxiety. You are likely having a spike due to anxiety. You were already having anxiety because of taking a prednisone pill. Your limbic system needs to calm back down.

But not loud enough to wake you from sleeping? Are you an extremely deep sleeper?

And you’re assuming it was there for 20 minutes when really you have no idea. It could have been there for less time.

I was half awake because I took anxiety meds the night before and I havent slept well the past 2 weeks. It was new for me too to be so grogged out, I was half aware of what was going on but my mind wasn't working (normally I would have gotten up and waited it out in another room!!).

I heard them and assumed it was the trash collectors, who usually leave after a few seconds (I checked the time and it was around 7:30). So I fell back asleep assuming it's the trash collectors. When I woke up again, cause they were fairly loud, the noise was still there and it was 8am. that's when it dawned on me what I had just done..

Again, it likely was not loud enough to damage your hearing. If it was, the men operating it for hours at a time would be deaf by now.

You are dealing with a lot of anxiety. Perhaps read through your posting history. How did those past worries resolve? Did your T permanently worsen? What helped the spike resolves?

But our ears are already pre-damaged. None of us would stay beside such a loud machine out of fear of tinnitus spikes. I do not deny my anxiety, I have 3 weeks of hell behind me with lots of panic attacks and today was the first day where I actually slept more than 5 hours a night and my tinnitus sounded tamed....

But I was still groggy after I went back to bed and not really anxious YET, i only noticed the spike when I was back in bed, so it can't JUST be the anxiety.

When I briefly looked at my phone while the machine was here it showed on the app 35db, but I can't know for sure if this was while the drain was in use or idle. I don't even know how accurate this app is. But i rarely listen to music even that loud. 35db is the sound the kitchen stoves air drainage makes, and I normally avoid exposure to such constant machine noises out of fear of hearing loss and tinnitus spike

35 dB? That is not going to cause hearing loss. Perfect example:
A library is louder than 35dB.

Our ears are already damaged, but saying damage will continue is speculation. I have been exposed to many loud noises over the past year. No spikes from noise. And I have severe hearing loss, there is very clear evidence that my hair cells above 4k are damaged.

35db assuming this smartphone app can be trusted.. and it was fairly loud. the machine it self is apparently 90db, and i was around 3meters away from it on the first floor....normal double-glass windows. i cannot be sure

Do you have hyperacusis? 35dB is not loud. It will not cause hearing loss. There is a significant difference between 35dB and a level that could damage hearing. Even if the app was inaccurate, it is likely not off by 50dB.

But it was a really big machine.... it probably makes a different type of loud noise than a classroom. and all this is assuming a smartphone app accurately captured the noise level..

Again, the smart phone app is not going to be off by 50dB.

Yes, it was a big machine. But you were in your house.

      I myself have both T & H. I can feel your anxiety.
Tinnitus with hyperacusis ppl are more easily spiked
by even a little loud noise.

90 dB @ 3 meters + double pane windows + 30 minutes => I would personally not worry about it.
Your anxiety is probably causing your spike. Try to calm down.

Im only guessing 90db, http://www.breideneichen-entsorgung.de/cms/images/kanalreinigung.jpg this was the kind of machine only bigger, it was really loud when they turned it on

I am so scared and scarred that I was exposed to this machine for so long.

You shouldn't be. It's unlikely that it cause any damage to your auditory system.
