To raise awareness at the right people, the best thing the average tinnitus patient can do is:

Cause as much medical costs as possible!

If you have health insurance, it is covered anyway and analyzed by the insurer.
Only high expenditures for tinnitus will lead to more research to treat it.

Worst thing a patient can do for the statistics is to accept the famous sentence from his GP/ENT ("There is nothing we can do about it. Don't think about it, it's just your brain.") and never come back.

 

Audiology and ENT visits aren't categorized/labeled under tinnitus, so your advice doesn't work.
