My tinnitus is so loud it makes it difficult to hear, even though I have hearing aids.

Does anyone else experience the same thing?

Is your tinnitus in the same frequency range as most people's voices?

Yes, I can’t hear very well at all, although I’m alright with understanding voice, it’s all distorted and painful. Someone says something with the letter S and my brain feels like it's being cut with a laser. Background sounds I can’t tell what they are, or where they are coming from. My head is plugged with hearing loss, screaming and zaps. Yeah, I don’t hear well, head noise takes over all, I’m trying to carefully listen around/through my tinnitus, it’s exhausting.

Sudden profound hearing loss in left ear.
My deaf ear is always making tinnitus noise and the noise increases when I am around sound. I wish it would just shut up and be a deaf, useless ear. Instead, it is a deaf ear that gets in the way of sounds I want to hear in my hearing ear.

I also get symptoms like these. Not in that level of yours. It first started like a whistle/feedback over specific frequencies. It progressively got worse. Now my right ear (it's the worse one) produces really weird sounds (zaps, whistles, old modem sound, morse code etc.) over specific sounds (especially music, traffic sounds, fridge sounds, tap water, fans, air conditioners among others). Lately, these symptoms started to happen with human voice, especially with the "s" sounds. It's like extra tinnitus over my tinnitus. I don't know what the hell is that. Is it hyperacusis? Is it recruitment? I wish I could also understand the reason behind this. The cause. It's really horrible and exhausting and it's still spreading. I guess once the pandora's box opens...

Sometimes it's hard to hear, at other times it’s ok. It depends what sound/s and level of volume I have at that time.
I have moderate to severe hearing loss in both ears.

This thread shows nice documented evidence that hearing aids are not the best treatment for SNHL.
