Got tinnitius and now lost my girlfriend who saved my life and got me through the initial few months.

But now I'm just thinking F@@@ her and F@@@ tinnitus.

In the last week, I've been out for 2 meals, both without ear plugs.

Been to the cinema to see Jurassic World with ear plugs in, still bloody loud.

Went to the pub last night and got pretty smashed true British style.

Now going out tonight, possibly even to a club or two. (with ear plugs).

Not going to let this or her get the best of me. My tinnitus is at it's lowest point for a while today. The only thing I worry about is if I don't put the ear plugs in correctly and the occlusion effect. Although these are apparently rated at 33db so 100db club shouldn't cause too many problems.

Are there ear plugs which don't cause the occlusion effect?

I dont know what the occlusion effect is but no earplugs will stop bass .
Clubs are a bad idea, trust me ...been there.

I've spoken to lots of people who still go to clubs without ear plugs and have never had a problem though! One lady even went without ear plugs once. I'd never do that but T seems to be subjective. Did it make yours worse? Surely the frequency has no baring? I thought it was just the SPL level we need to be careful of? I'm not worried about bone conduction as I read the skull blocks out ~40db.

Well, I am just saying that ear plugs will not stop any bass , so you will be experiencing most of the bass spl.

To reduce this effect make sure the plugs are inserted deep and don't go around shouting.

It might not get you tonight bit it will eventually do.. And who knows there are ppl that it doesnt affect but how do you know your one of them..

Yeah that's true mate, I never went to a club in the end just pubs. Walked past the clubs and they were so loud it was crazy, don't think I'll bother with them, not even worth it.

I've worried about this because for better or worse I've been loathe to completely give up my motorcycle.

Howard Leight claims this attenuation when their plugs are properly inserted:

So, that doesn't cover very low end bass, but 125hz is still bass.

      Its simple physics, a 20 hz sine has a wavelength of 17.2 m .
To stop any kind of frequency you need mass or an object of comparable wavelength.
Not saying they do nothing though , but yeah :)

Don't know enough about ear plugs, but I bought $200 worth of them from Sonic Shop in Germany when my H attacked a few years ago. I thought I bought some foam plugs that are very good, some earplane plugs, some musician plugs and even ear muffs. You may want to contact them or some of the major online earplugs suppliers such as this one: http://www.earplugstore.com/

Congrats to you @geg1992 for doing so much better compared to the time you posted the 'good bye' thread. Sure, but low frequencies also require much higher spl to cause damage. Really loud clubs probably aren't really safe for anyone, but as far as day-to-day noise goes, higher frequencies are a lot more dangerous.

Hmmm, Spl is Spl , regardless of frequency , not sure what you mean by that ?

for two waveforms with the same loudness, the higher frequency wave is higher energy. However... there's definitely a lot of evidence that even inaudible low frequency sounds can be damaging... which sort of makes me wonder, if there truly is an increase in tinnitus these days, how much of that is really a result of headphone use etc, and how much of it might be the result of stuff like "city rumble" and wind power production facilities, especially given how far deep bass travels relative to treble.

In any case, I've convinced myself that I need to move the hell away from cities for the good of my mental health, and I'm doing so within the next year, hopefully sooner.
