Get Rid of Your Cheap Plastic Blinds

I discovered, the hard way, that I have cheap plastic Noisy blinds at my home. The blinds were closed, and I wanted to see outside, and so I pushed down a bit too hard and too fast on one of the blinds. The blinds made a loud noise and it was close to my ear.

Now I have a full ear sensation, and my tinnitus is higher pitched and more intense. I lost 3-5 months of progress in a fraction of a second.......

 

@Bill Bauer, is your tinnitus really high now? Honestly I doubt it will cause more damage. I have had things drop next to me... iron gate closed... car bonnet closed next to me and spike always subsided.

 

Plastics blinds? Not metal? Metal blinds can be loud, but neither are likely anywhere near 80 or 85 dB.

How is your anxiety? Did you worry the sound was too loud as soon as it happened? Or did you go about your day and later wonder why your tinnitus was louder?

 

@Bill Bauer it will be ok! Will you go to urgent care for some prednisone pills?

 

I didn't know blinds could could be made of metal. Mine are thin and crinkly. I guess they are made of metal, as I remember the plastic ones to be thicker.

The volume hasn't changed, but the pitch is a lot more high pitched and more intense.... And the full ear sensation is still there. It ought to be temporary, but you never know. This is very disturbing and stressful.

 

I took an extra NAC pill. I have 3 prednisone pills left. I think I will wait until tomorrow morning, before taking one of them...

 

It should be obvious if they're metal. Metal are very thick and not easy to bend. Many of my doctor's offices have aluminum blinds.

It sounds like you're having quite a bit of anxiety. Did your worry that the noise was too loud start immediately?

 

My most pronounced emotion was disbelief. As you know I am always assuming the worst. But even I couldn't imagine that I was so vulnerable as to have a reaction to loud crinkling of some old blinds.

The spikes I experienced following doors slamming had lasted 3 days each. I am hoping that this spike will follow a similar trajectory...

 

Mine are very easy to bend. They must be aluminum, right?

 

The ear fullness and higher pitched sound started within a minute or two. After a couple of minutes of the new sound, I began to be concerned about it. I am still not losing hope that this is temporary, although it doesn't feel temporary. But I guess it never feels temporary.

 

Not sure. I've bent plastic ones very easily. I haven't bent aluminum/metal ones before.

My only advice would be to be optimistic. Don't worry that this is a permanent spike, don't dwell on the noise -- keep yourself busy and distracted.

I know that's easier said than done, but I think it can be helpful. Worrying that it's worse won't given you any benefit right now.

 

I'm dealing with a spike too.

I seriously doubt blinds would be loud enough to do any permanent damage.

i think youre experiencing TTS.

the ear fullness will be due to the protective spasm in your ear.

magnesium...quiet...relax...sound enrichment

Sorry to hear that Bill, and it makes me very anxious to even think that such a slight thing could cause such problems.

 

I had been suffering from TTS for months. My ear drum would flutter, and I would hear a "whoosh" sound after every sound. But I haven't experienced this for over two months. In any case, I will try taking more magnesium.

It sounded loud, and the source was right by my bad ear. But of course it couldn't have been That loud...

 

Ive experienced the same thing Bill, except it was a solid wooden door that slammed shut right near my left ear.

I had sudden pain, muffled hearing, tinnitus went mental, and I did too.

I took a handful of mg, nac, vit c, stayed away from loud noise, and got plenty of zzz, and it eventually over the course of a few days went back to baseline.

I know it sucks, but i dont believe that you have damaged your ears.

It probably sounded loud because you have sound sensitivity.

@Bill Bauer Sorry Bill. It should settle down. You been thru a few spike situations before and they have resolved. Plastic, paper, and foil all bother me. I can't even spit into the sink when brushing my teeth. My neck cracked loud today and my T drop to a 7 for a few hours. When I went to bed and it rose to a 10 again.

 

When I woke up today, the sound intensity was back to normal. The sound is more high pitched compared to 24 hours ago, but it is an improvement over the sound I had to listen to in the evening.

It looks like the spike was temporary. Nevertheless, this is messed up!
