Hello,
I noticed ringing in my ears back in 2017-2018 and did very little research. I was under a lot of stress at the time, and experiencing many other symptoms. I put it down to anxiety related to a separate condition, my GP prescribed AD, and I tried to ignore the tinnitus as much as possible.
Around 6-10 months ago, I noticed my hearing was deteriorating. I needed to ask people to repeat themselves and when there was a lot of chatter, it became increasingly difficult to focus on the person I was supposed to be listening to. I also realised my tinnitus was becoming more noticeable, with variable noises such as a constant buzz, morse code and when laying on my right ear I can hear and feel my pulse in my ear. I booked in for a hearing test which was over 5 weeks away.
However, around 3 weeks ago my hearing deteriorated so badly, that I now struggle to make sense of sounds, especially people talking. It's frightened me as I cannot work out what the noises are or where they are located, which is dreadful when trying to cross the road with my two children. It's made me feel disoriented. I was away on holiday when this happened, and with the Easter break I struggled to be seen by a GP. I ended up going to a walk-in centre on my return, and the Doc there said there was no blockage or sign of infection. She told me to see my GP who could refer me to ENT. I then began to experience slight dizziness, but only very mild. The GP said he would be referring me, but asked if I had insurance to go privately. His rationale was because of the affect on my daily life, and that ENT via the NHS is around 6-8 weeks waiting time.
My dizziness is making me feel really nauseous now, and I feel like crap. Have started taking Betahistine to hopefully improve my balance/nausea issues. I have booked in to see a consultant privately as cannot bear to wait 6-8 weeks feeling like this. I will probably need to sell a kidney to afford it, but my symptoms have me worried now. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks for reading.
