      I am new to the forum.. I found it while searching for help on-line.

      I have had tinnitus off and on for some time.. but lately has really set me back. Trying to get into see a good Dr.. Been using sound recording from "Binaural Beats" on Youtube.. I found some recordings that have tones similar to the one I hear.. seems to have "noise-canceled" it a bit for sleep.. Been having some very "dark" thoughts, trying hard to stay positive...

      @Anthony T ,
      Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
      Tinnitus comes with lots of unwanted emotions and low mood but this will get better as you learn about tinnitus and what becomes normal for you like tinnitus spikes.
      Playing relaxing music will help you stay calm and take your mind off your sound.
      Im sure your doctor will check inside your ears for wax or signs of infection and be good to have a hearing test with audiology.
      Love glynis x

      Welcome to the forum. Glynis has given you great advice. It is normal that when tinnitus gets too intrusive we may have the dark thought crossing our minds. But members mostly learn to give it some time and use different strategies to help them move on. I agree that you need to see a doctor/ENT to check out the ears to make sure nothing serious is happening inside the ears.

      There are many causes, single or combined, which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including but not limited to drug side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, ear-wax removal suction, inner ear infection, Eustachian tube disorder or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up in ears feeling pressured or fullness, sinus infection & congestion especially with a bad cold, TMJ, TTTS, autoimmune disorders such as Lyme Disease & Fibromyalgia, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, anemia, loud noise exposure or acoustic trauma/shock, head injury or TBI, neck injury or muscle problems, hearing loss from aging or other causes, Meniere's Decease, barotrauma from rapid pressure changes in flights or diving, especially with congested nose or sinus causing failure to balance the pressure changes, slapping of the ears, deep grief, untreated sleep apnea, extreme/extended stress, anxiety & panic disorder, depression, sleep deprivation, etc.

      If you really can't stand the T ringing, try start masking for now so you won't be so anxious and depressed which will make T worse and can also cause some dark thought. Try to use a sound machine for bed time, ipod or smart phone to mask T on the go if you need it, or just use the PC to get some sounds from web sites such as these:
      TT's excellent audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

      or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: https://mynoise.net

      or download free sound generator ‘aire freshener’: http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

      or click play to mix these sounds with this simple sound generator: http://asoftmurmur.com/

      or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc.
