      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Surgery cure of fistula
My name is Lyne. I have tinnitus since I was a young child. But it never disturb me. I was diagnosed with otosclérosis at the age of 23. That is when I got my first hearing aid for my right ear. About 2 years after that I needed one for my left ear. Thirteen years after, I had surgery for my right ear to correct my hearing loss.

Everything went great. I got back 75% of my hearing loss. Two years after that I had surgery for my left ear.

But that one didn't work well. I only got 15% back and had to keep my hearing aid. Unfortunately, in 2013 I woke up one morning without hearing anything from my left ear. I went in the hospital about 12 hours after. I almost lost my hearing on that ear. But the doctors could not tell what was the cause. The symptoms of vestibular disorder started and got so bad that I couldn't walk.

The ENT specialist and the neurologist didn't agre on the cause. So only the 9th doctor knew what was wrong. I had a fistula in my inner ear. I had surgery the 14 Dec 2015. The next day I was able to walk again.

Unfortunately, the fistula came back in Oct of the same year. I had surgery again. This time I did not recover completely from vestibular difficulties. I had physiotherapie but It still is very difficult. My tinnitus got worst with the surgery. And is getting worst every day. I'm a nurse and hope to go back to work someday.

Welcome @Lymaillet . I am sorry to hear of your worsening symptoms, and the fact that it is keeping you from working. The world needs nurses, it is a difficult job, and a very caring and giving one. It is sad that tinnitus is keeping someone who truly wants to help people from being able to help.

If you have not yet, search for @Michael Leigh. He has posted some very interesting articles and links that will, hopefully, provide some assistance, comfort, and hope.

I hope the progression stops, and that you are able to return to work. It is frustrating, but as you look around this forum you will see many success stories. There is hope.
