Most people call me Eddie but that name was already taken so Edmund it is !

      My story....

I developed Tinnitus about 8 years ago following a particularly noisey job.I was ok at first then about a week later i picked up a heavy door and it felt like a rubber band had snapped in both ears simultaneously.I developed a high pitched ringing in both ears and some 'parathesia'.Loads of tests and scans later proved nothing and nothing can be found.

Well i habituated to that after about 6 months and got to the point were i only heard the ringing at bedtime or in very quiet places.I found ways to deal with this listening to white noise on my walkman and dropping off to sleep no problems. So this first lot of Tinnitus didnt impact too much on my life.
Unfortunately, about a year ago i developed pulsatile tinnitus. This came and went a few times and only when i was laying down.It eventually stuck and has got worse and worse.I have had CT and MRI scans and my ENT specialist is pretty useless to be frank and has given up on me.

When i walk i get a buzzing/crunching coming up through my neck and into my ears,if i tilt my head back or from side to side the pulsating gets worse. My GP says it is stress/anxiety but it is constant even when i am reasonably relaxed.I wonder if anyone else has similiar symptoms.

I have some high frequency hearing loss and wear hearing aids now which only have limited help with regards to the pulsating.

I am intending to pay to see a neorologist privately as i am getting desperate.

I am currently taking 15mg mirtazepine and 250 microgrms Chlonazepine at night to help me sleep.

I have also seen a private ENT specialist who prescribed the Chlonazepine (500microgrm at night and 250micro grm twice a day) as he said this helps some people.I have since read some bad things about Chlonazepine,so i may stop that soon.

      Thanks for listening. Ed

      Hi Eddie,
      Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
You could do with a Doppler scan on your neck to check if it's vascular.

A mild beta blocker can help pulsating tinnitus so have a chat to your doctor about it and let us know how you get on.

      Love glynis

Hi,it is hard to explain but more of a high pitch ringing/wooshing and rythmic with my heart beat.
I had it for a few weeks when i got my first tinnitus 8 years ago but it went away. Now its back for over a year now.It is debilitating and just seems to get worse every day.
      Good luck with yours.

So my story continues.I had a doplar of the neck which didn't reveal anything.I have now seen a private Neurologist who sent me for a cta scan which he said showed nothing untoward and signed me off as a hopeless case.
I am now seeing the nhs Neurologist tomorrow does anyone have any advice what i should ask for next ?
I don't know what other tests i can ask for now ?
Trying hard to get on with life every day is a challenge.
