CTA??? of what the neck and head?? My life is totally destroyed....I can't sleep, function, breath, Its like this sound is making me go MAD! This is so terrible....Not to mention the jaw pain I've been having....No I don't have TMJ....Eagles syndrome....Long styloid process...God I'm so depressed...Im being punished...this is punishment....

I've had the low humming in my right ear for 3 months now. It is annoying like a ships engine in the head. Had a spinal and head MRI. Nothing spotted but something is causing this. We just have to live with it unfortunately until such time as it goes away or we die. It is completely out of our control.

      Hi, @kelsey,

Yes, I think a CTA would be a good idea, to see if anything can be found. I'm not sure what could be causing the low humming along with the pulsating. Did it start suddenly, or come on gradually? Have you been to a neurotologist, or only to an ENT? You might want to try going to a specialist such as a neurologist, to see if he has any additional insight. If all else fails, it is often suggested on Whooshers. com that you circulate your scans to another doctor or doctors. There are some specialists who, for a fee, will review your scans and E-mail you any new findings.

Good luck, and I would like to hear what your doctor finds, if you decide to request a CTA.

      Very best wishes,
      Karen

Hello, All, The sound came on gradually......then it started to get worse....some days I barely hear it some days its full force......No hearing loss, I get referred pain in my ears and jaw...I wear a splint....but it doesn't help...Ive been to a ear doctor and ENTS, and A neuro surgeon....Only thing was an MRI of my brain and neck...and CT of my neck but before the noise started...Its not a pulse I hear...its a LOUD vibrating humming noise and when my heart beats the noise will fluctuate......I first noticed it ONLY in my left ear with ear plugs on when my head was tilted down or too the side....Then it started on my right ear but I hear that ALLL the time only in the right ear....the left is is ONLY with earplugs on when head is down....I bet there is some type of compression going on.....no doctors believe that....And i told them that

Option#1: it's called cochlear hydrops, it should stay a low humming unless it gets worse and you developed vertigo, at that point you have what's called minieres. You can get tested for hydrops at an otologist, only an otologist not an ENT.

Option#2: if the sound is like a typewriter in you ear? Then it's tensor tympani muscle spasm aka tensor tympani myoclonus. I had this for months when I was super stressed about my tinnitus. Thinking about your ears causes muscles spasms which sound like a thumping typewriter in your ear..

Luckily both will go away with treatment.

Look on the bright side - its only in one ear, could be in both like it usually is! ;-)

I'm glad my MRI came out negative. If it showed anything it would most likely be a TUMOR! Thank you for a negative test!!!

No mine sounds like a loud semi engine, Its not a hissing or buzzing or anything close to that........And its positional....It goes away slightly when I lay down, and when I sit I hear it very loud.....

Yes that is the classic symptoms of cochlear hydrops. Roaring tinnitus that fluctuates.

An otologist that's the only doctor who can help you not an ENT an OTOLOGIST
