      Hello everybody.
I have an occasional whining noise in my left ear.
My husband can actually hear it too.

I can sort of control it a little by moving my head even slightly.
I was wondering what kind of tinnitus this could be.

I've had this annoying noise for at least 7 years but didn't realise this was anything abnormal until I developed TMJ and started googling.

I have an appointment with an ENT doctor soon but I'm wondering if this is a stroke waiting to happen.

The objective kind (since your husband can hear it too). It's fairly rare, but it happens. There's a chance it's treatable, so let's see what the ENT doc says.

Welcome to the forum. You may have what is called 'objective tinnitus' which can actually be heard by others. This type is more rare and is often traceable to a cause and therefore can be fixed, whereas subjective tinnitus are more common and often can't be cured easily. So it is a positive point. Read below for more detail on objective tinnitus. Take care. God bless.
