For the past two weeks I have been suffering from a cold and flu bug. I am getting better but I'm still feeling run down and occasionally coughing up phlegm.

However the most annoying of this is that I am having a faint low rumbling sound in my head especially in my right ear. The sound is like a distant lorry with its engine on. Please advise.

Sounds like it's related to your cold/flue bug and hopefully will subside once you recover.
