Suspect listening to music on my iPhone too loudly
Hi all - I never thought I'd be posting this but here I am. My success story stems from three areas:

      1) removal of the Ototoxic substance exacerbating my tinnitus - in my case it was Lipitor and it took months to figure this out.

      2) the addition of CBD - this is Cannabinoid oil (aka CBD -which is the oil extracted from marijuana plants). This was huge - read below for details.

      3) mindfulness / perspective - reminding myself that there are many other diseases that are far worse and, from a relative sense, I'm lucky to 'only' have had to deal with this one.

Overall - the above has had a major reduction in both the loudness and perception of tinnitus. If you are familiar with the Tinnitus Handicap Score - I had scored mid-30's on several occasions indicating a moderate amount of handicap - my scores are now in the teens - which is a clinical reduction in symptoms. Also, I would have put my tinnitus at around 5 to 6 in loudness on a scale of 1-10, with an occasional spike to 7 - now I would put it at 2 to 3 with an occasional spike to 4. Big difference.
      =========================================================
      Details:

      1) - when my tinnitus somewhat suddenly appeared last summer I was at a loss. Googling every medication and supplement I was taking had some sort of link or anecdotal report. Long story short, I eliminated everything that I could and began to systematically add them back in while keeping a log. I noticed that when I stopped taking Lipitor, my tinnitus symptoms were less. I also researched this extensively and called the drug manufacture, reviewed patient symptoms, etc. I had been taking Lipitor for years with no such effects - what happened? What had occurred was that I doubled my dose from 10 mg to 20 mg for a few moths leading up to when my symptoms emerged. It's a casual link but nonetheless, when I stopped Lipitor completely and switched to Crestor, it seemed to help.

      2) adding CBD oil was perhaps the greatest single item in my success plan. I had tried some Hemp CBD and other strains that did little - then a few weeks ago I was in California on business and said 'what the heck' and bought some tinctures with both CBD oil and little TCH (THC is the substance that actually gets you high from smoking weed - BUT the amount in the tincture is so low it does not have that effect at all, plus the THC actually enhances the CBD effects. You will need to google this for yourself, but we have CBD receptors all over - including our brains, and this is one reason why CBD has been so effective in stopping epileptic seizures. CBD oil reduces the excessive neuron activity and reduces inflammation. Tinnitus is exacerbated from your neurons firing all the time and auditory inflammation so it makes sense. BUT - you need to take CBD with THC. The brand I used was called Care by Design in the 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC. I'm sure others would work fine too - and I used 1/4 to 1/3 of a dropper - which is about 3-5 mg each of CBD and THC. I did not get high and could function perfectly fine. What I did notice was that within 1 - 2 days after taking this once per day at night - my tinnitus symptoms were reduced dramatically. I have continued with this regiment for the last two weeks or so and will stop the CBD/THC drops in another week or so to assess if it's permanent - but so far so good.

      3) When my tinnitus really acted up - I would play this little game with myself asking if I would trade the Tinnitus for Cancer, a loss of a limb, being blind, being deaf, etc. - the answer was always NO in every case. Also, I came to understand and accept that as we age we can expect decline - our bodies were not designed to run forever and diseases will emerge - I'm sure there are thousands of other folks who are chronically ill, dying or permanently in pain that would trade places with me to have ear ringing instead of what they are experiencing - so I do my best to always keep that in mind and be thankful for the health and well being that I do have.

That's all for now my friends. I still have tinnitus - so I am in no way cured - but my symptoms have been reduced to where I barely notice - and I have even started listening to music with headphones (low volume) something that I wouldn't have done even a few weeks ago.

God Speed to you all. I will post back on this thread if anything changes.

The type I am recommending is only legal in California and Colorado since it does contain small amounts of THC. (many states are in the process of making this legal). Hemp-based CBD is legal in all 50 states since by law it contains less than .03% THC. I had used some hemp oil previously (Charlottes Web) and it did lessen my perception of T a tad and helps with anxiety from it. However, cannabis-based CBD worked better for me overall and actually lowered the volume of T. I don't want to tell you what to do but if you could arrange a trip to either CA or CO - you could buy some at local shops and see how well it works. (by the way - I am not a pot smoker at all - never was one - and felt somewhat odd going into these stores that sell the stuff - but guess what - there were lots of other middle-aged professionals in these shops doing the same thing.) CBD oil is proving to have a wide range of other health-related effects due to it's anti-inflammatory properties.

What strength (in mg) was the CBD:THC mix? I've tried just CBD on its own for tinnitus and insomnia but noticed no positive benefits. Might try some CBD:THC mix combined and see does it help..

Each ML (1 full dropper) contains 18 mg of both CBD and Thc. I only use up to 1/3 of a dropper. I have used about 10 mg of just pure CBD with a small effect– but using it in conjunction with THC seem to make a larger difference. I would say that at this low dose which approximates five or 6 mg of THC and CBD – is probably the equivalent of drinking a beer - kind of mellows me out a little bit but I am in no way stoned. I am also 200lbs for reference. But also realize that the CBD oil actually binds to the receptors more than THC, which lessens the psychoactive effect of THC, however the THC enhances the positive effects of CBD on mood, inflammation, etc.

THC is also legal in Washington, so I'm going to try this today. Thanks so much for your post.

I would absolutely give up a leg if it would cure my tinnitus.

Jimmy, can you tell me what kind of tinnitus you have? Mine was not caused by noise. It came on all of a sudden accompanied with total hearing loss in my right ear. No reason. Just bam, it hit me. Is this the type of tinnitus you have, or did yours come from being exposed to loud noise? Thanks for the post. I live in WA State and there are weed shops all around here. I'll try anything.

Glad to see you have found something that works. Care By Design has multiple ratios of CBD:THC (18:1, 8:1, 4:1, 2:1, 1:1). Did you try any of the others before the 1:1? Thank you.

Hi. Mine came on very suddenly - I attribute it to years of Lipitor that may have exasperated normal aging and sound-related T. I had some hearing loss at high frequencies but would be considered normal hearing (ie within a 20 decibel range of perfect)

I did see this study but it is pretty worthless. It was done on Rats and attempted to guage their tinnitus by the amount of distress they observed. Totally bogus. THC in high doses does enhance Timnitus (like from getting totally stoned) but that’s not at all what I was talking about. Also, before I tried this I read numerous forums from people who have used CBD and at worst it has no effect. My T is very sensitive (drinking alcohol and salty food sends it raging) but I had no ill effects from CBD.

I’ve used 18:1 and also a pure CBD from hemp (Charlottes Web) and it helped somewhat (lessened my perception / annoyance rather than the noise).

Is this a thing? This sounds exactly like what I’m dealing with. I literally went to bed without tinnitus and woke up with it.
