      Hello guys,

Are spikes from taking drugs temporary?

It was ED drugs in my case, I tried searching the internet but the literature is not very clear if the drug is even ototoxic or not, maybe people who already have tinnitus are more susceptible?

Anyone here who has tinnitus and/or spikes from taking drugs, and how long before you noticed improvement?

      Thanks.

      Hi, Barre.

I had spikes from two different medicamentations and they went away. From AB it took couple of days after I ended to cool down.

I hope, you will be fine as well :)

      Hi, what drug is it?
Maybe it is not ototoxic but I assume these drugs have an effect on your blood stream, which can affect tinnitus.

ED drugs can cause tinnitus (chances are rare). It does increase tinnitus for a day or so.

      Thanks for the replies

It was something called Spedra, a PDE5 inhibitor like Viagra, Cialis, Levitra etc, I just took the smallest recommended dose of 50 mg, cut the tablet in 4, and half an hour after my ringing significantly increased, 8 days later it has improved somewhat, but minimally and it still is quite intrusive and bothersome, it was mild to moderate before I took it. Worrying to say the least.

I asked my ENT and the urologist and they never heard that this drug caused tinnitus, although in theory it is possible I guess, my ENT said that it is possible that due to blood pressure changes and/or vasolidation some damage can occur, although that is purely theoretical and not backed by any data, it would be incredibly rare in any case he said, he put me on a 9 day prednisone course just to be sure.

There is also another factor, I was quite anxious before taking it, worrying that it might spike my tinnitus, so maybe it became some sort of self fulfilling prophecy, hard to tell, although the change in volume is drastic, I think there is also a physical aspect to it, maybe it temporary spiked but my limbic system locked in on it?

I will finish the prednisone, 3 days to go, the ENT thinks it will settle beck down again, but what else can he say right? There is no way of knowing, I read anecdotal reports of people getting tinnitus while on PDE5 drugs, extremely rare, but maybe I am just that unlucky, who knows. I took them maybe 8 times spread over 12 months or so, wish I did not.

I am sure it will go down... I had a mild increase for one day after taking viagra.

Can you let us know how you are doing?
From experience I am telling you that I am 100% sure it will go down.
