Hi! I am brand new here and hoping to find some guidance on treating my tinnitus. I took niacin, a low dosage (can't remember how much) many years ago and it got rid of my tinnitus completely. This was back when I was 40. I am now 69. In good health, excellent blood pressure, heart rate 51 beats per min., no physical problems except stiff knees and need to treat the rushing in my ears which started a couple of years ago. I have also been dieting over the past 2 years on a healthy eating plan and lost 56 pounds. My tinnitus could be related to a case of the flu or maybe allergies. I am an artist and writer so the sounds are distracting to me.

My doctor put me on a low dose of niacin way back then, (is there a difference between niacin and niacinamide?) and I raised this dose gradually as long as I could stand the flushing in the head/neck areas. Did quite well on it and in a number of weeks I think, the tinnitus was gone! The flushing lasted 6 months but I didn't mind it.

I have searched and searched the internet but can't find any dosage recommendations to do this routine again. I would like to start doing this right away as I would so like to enjoy the sounds of nature: streams, wind, birds again without the sound of an electrical turbine churning in my head. I know you all understand this!

Welcome to the forum, @Katherine. I didn't use Niacin, but there have been plenty of discussions on it from people who have used it, such as this one:

You can search for more discusssions by using the search function and type in Niacin. Try to search it from the entry screen of TT which lists all the forums so your search can cover the entire TT forums. If you do the search in the Introduction forum, then only posts belong that forum will show.

Thank you! I will do the searches. My tinnitus really isn't any worse than its been for a long time but I recently started using eucalyptus oil to inhale in a cup of hot water. This makes the rushing sound go away Completely!! I have had a mystery respiratory infection, antibiotic resistant, for over a year, since Dec. 2015. Thats right! The doctors gave me 4 antibiotics in two months: two courses of azithromycin, one 7 day course of Cefdinir and one 14 day course of Cefdinir. My temperature has been 95.1 with chills, sweats, fatigue and green phlegm in a cough. A specialist attributes all this ( I am better now but not well yet) to a sinus infection resistant to antibiotics. My digestive bacteria was totally destroyed and my colon wanted to leave town.
I have CPTSD. I am handling this without anti anxiety drugs since I tried them and the insomnia is unacceptable for me.
I am going to see if our local.Good Earth store has the Niacin. I do remember that I was told to increase my dose daily to the point that I experienced a really strong rush of heat and tingling in the facial area. Then to hold that dose for a number of days. This, however, was some 28 years ago! Medical science may not recommend this anymore.
I am now on a strong pro biotic so I can someday function normally.
I am handling a lot of stuff in my life now but if I could just hear the creek singing again without a tinnitus accompanyment I would be happy.
