      Tinnitus Since:
      2016
      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Sudden loud noise exposure
I just recently had hearing loss, with high frequency loss, due to an accident on the gun range.

I have tinnitus 24/7 and as can be expected, it's driving me nuts. I have a few questions, that I'm sure someone here can help me with. Went to the ENT, said I had acoustic ear trauma. Didn't really give me any hope for recovery. Basically said my hearing that was lost would never come back and the T would never go away.

I'm just wondering, does it get better? Will the fullness I feel in my ear ever go away?

Should I be avoiding sounds, like the TV and music. The TV and music sounds like it's played through a broken speaker, if that makes sense. Plus they also seem to muffle my ear more. Is that temporary?

Should I be avoiding listening to them, or does that make it worse? If I avoid all sounds, won't my ears stop adjusting to them. If you don't use it, you lose it kind of thing?

I have so many questions and the medical world has no answers. Hard to understand how medical specialists can know so little about their field.

Also had a hearing test, confirmed hearing loss across the board, especially high frequencies. Can anybody help me understand what I can or should be doing to help things get as good as they can.

      thanks, Bruce

It's a very difficult thing too accept, I'm almost 9 months in after acoustic trauma, hearing loss and tinnitus.
The fullness in the ears did ease for me over time but it did take months.
I know what you mean about music sounding like a broken speaker. It's terrible.
You do need to avoid loud sounds about 85 db so invest in some good quality ear plugs.
Obviously don't use headphones too listen too audio.

Dealing with the depression has been the hardest thing for me

Even if tinnitus won't get better, you will get better - better at accepting it and living your life with it.

How long ago was your accident? You should give your ears a proper rest for quite some time, but don't avoid sounds completely.

Did you get a course of Prednisone? It could help.

Take care of yourself. Exercise, eat well. Don't let the depression get you. You can consider taking some supplements such as Magnesium, Glinko, Vitamins.
