      Impact to ear
About 4 weeks ago I was struck in the right ear with a cupped hand playing football then the T started. It has been about a month and I have seen an ENT who said nothing was wrong with my ear and to live with my T.

In the beginning, I was really down and going insane but I am mentally coping better day by day.

However, the T in my right ear is still pretty bad, I noticed that when I open my mouth wide or shift my lower jaw to the right my T will spike and change pitch.

Does anyone have a similar issue or do you think my T is related to TMJ???

Sounds like it could be a cervical spine (i.e. neck) issue. You should see an orthopedic doctor and ask him/her to prescribe you physical therapy.

Hi! The strike against your ear was noisy I guess, right? I don't think it's necessary to try to find another cause... This is the cause.
Do you mean that when you open your mouth wide, the T spikes for some minutes? Because if it just mildly spikes and changes tone while you're opening your mouth this is normal, it is also the case for me (and my T is due to an acoustic trauma), and for most T sufferers I guess.

My pitch gets higher and seems louder when I stick my lower jaw forward and sometimes when I open my mouth real wide. Definitely have some neck issues but also have high frequency hearing loss. After time you dont pay as much attention to it and it backs off some. if I pay attention to it witch you have a tendancy to do when you first get T I can hear it over the tv, driving almost everything but the shower.

      Thanks for all the responses,

To be more specific the T gets louder the wider I open my mouth or the more I shift my jaw to the right and as soon and I close my mouth or move my jaw back the T goes back to normal. Also, when I went to the ENT I had my hearing tested twice and they told me my hearing was okay.

      I really appreciate everyone's help!!!!

If T started after your ear was slapped, then that is the reason for your T. I remember reading about at least one other case like yours (T after a slap of the ear) on this site. The fact that T sounds louder after you move your jaw, does not mean it is TMJ (as most T sufferers can make T louder by moving their jaw or doing something similar).

I may have forgot to mention that prior to the slap to the ear about 3-4 months beforehand. I was simply sitting in my room doing laundry listening to talk radio at a pretty low to regular volume and suddenly I had a pop in my right ear followed by T. However it only lasted for about 4 to 5 days and slowly faded away but it was a completely different pitch and sound than the T I currently have.

In that case, it could be TMJ...

TMJ is one of those controversial things that's really hard to prove.
