      Hi all,

I'm coming up to my one year T anniversary:( and tonight I went to a local pub to watch a band play- naturally I hate that stuff now so I had my foam industrial earplugs in and spent no more than 20 mins at a time inside, I sat outside most of the night or sat in the back room where the music drown out. All this time having earplugs in.

I did my decibel reader inside and it got up to 115!!!!!!

Am I going to be ok? Naturally I'm spiking and I took a NAC tablet, anything else I can do?

I did not spend any amount of time longer than five mins near the band and is only cause I stopped to buy a bottle of water, had earplugs in.

Any advice please?:( spike is on!

The best advice I can give you is to try to calm yourself down. Anxiety can make a spike either worse, last longer or both. Just keep telling yourself that it's just temporary and that it will pass. Which it will. I've had T since 1978. I've had so many spikes that they no longer scare me. They're just an inconvenience and nuisance to me now. They all did pass and so will yours.

So, take heart, You'll be fine!...:)

You're doing everything you can possibly do. I suggest staying away from live bands and the like as it only makes you more paranoid.

Thankyou! Thankyou for the encouraging words, I'm trying to live my life and not let T rule me, I didn't want to go to this band that bad and the minute it got to loud I went outside, wearing my earplugs still:)
I think that just being around that noise regardless of the earplugs is not good?

They were 32 decibel stop foam plugs. Thanks for the encouraging words I appreciate it x

Thanks Danny:) yeah no more loud live bands for me! Tried to give it a go and it's s no go. Even with the 32 decibel stop foam plugs I still felt the ground move! It was a large pub so I scooted to the back and outdoors majority of the time, still big spike:(

Mod you know how much NAC needs to be taken to be effective? I took an approx 500mg cap?

Is 32 decibel stop foam plugs good would you say?

      Thanks Danny x

Take over 1200mg in one go.

Ok thanks! Should I take vit C with it? I heard that you need to because it can cause kidney stones if not?

Well I took 800mg on NAC and almost choked. My bp was 140/90 and pulse 105
That counts as severe asthma attack.
My number of breaths was above 25 per minute too.

I wonder what is in NAC that affects some people that way? I have been taking NAC (two 600-mg. capsules per day) for many months now, with no side effects at all. It really seems to help take a little bit of the edge off my tinnitus, and I understand it protects the ears from further damage.

I didn't know it could cause kidney stones! Will taking Vitamin C along with it really help protect against that? I take vitamin C every day.

Stacey, I hope you're beginning to feel better now. Has the spike dissipated at all yet? You're doing the right things; take care, and I hope your tinnitus subsides soon.

      @Stacey427

I was standing next to a friends boat when he was working on it when his alarm went off and it was REALLY REALLY loud I was like a foot away, almost knocked me to the ground. BUT my spike went away after a week or so. Your's will to. You will return back to your base line give it some time. It's not like you were at a rock concert for 6 hours.

You take care and try not and worry about it, that only delays the recovery, which is enevable.

      Thanks for the reply:)

I read somewhere that it's been linked to kidney stones if taken in too high a dose in an vitamin C lacking body. I could have read that wrong though and it was a little while ago.

Thanks for the support, what exactly and how exactly does NAC work for the hearing system?

Thanks so much for that encouraging response:)

Yeah I did not spend longer than twenty mins at s time (three times max maybe?) in the pub whilst the band was playing. I'm very nervous it won't go down and am too scared to take a lot of NAC.

Thanks for the support and well words:)

Don't panic. Stress and anxiety will aggravate tinnitus. You are having a spike which usually will fade. Give it time for the ears to settle. Try something to mask it so you are not getting too anxious. You are right on the dB reading. Rock concerts are usually about 115 dB. Fortunately you have ear plugs to buffer the loud noise and you didn't stay for very long. So give it some time and stay positive. Take care & God bless.

You shouldn't take it if you have asthma. Do you have it?

Very strange that it gives you asthma attacks! I'm sorry you can't take it; it works very well for me, with no side effects.
