I recently had an accident with an oxygen tank. The hose exploded in my ear and now I've had tinnitus for almost a week. I'm feeling anxious, tired for the lack of sleep and very nervous that this might be permanent.

Does anyone have any tips for what to do in the first days or weeks?

Do you think this might be permanent? My doctor prescribed me some medicine.

Did y'all took any medication in the first days or weeks? Thanks for the help!

Some think Prednisone within the first few days can help. I'm not so sure. I hope it clears up for you quick. I'm 3 1/2 months in myself. Best of luck.

I've had tinnitus and hyperacusis for a week. Tinnitus is going down but my hyperacusis remains the same.

I took Prednisone for a few days but I recently tested positive for COVID-19 and I'm having night sweats. I read that Prednisone lowers your immune system so I stopped taking it.

Does anyone know anything I could do to lower my hyperacusis?

Should I cover my ears from moderate sounds?

Part of the damage in mouse models from blast injury is the formation of temporary hydrops which seem to correlate with synapse damage. The study found both hypertonic saline in the middle ear/round window as well as Lasix helped considerably with these hydrops and the recovery in synapses compared to control.

If you can't be on steroids, trying out a short trial of Lasix might be of help (don't go crazy, under 40 mg in a single dose orally or you could hurt your inner ear's electrolyte balance).
