Pleasantly Surprised About New Research Since Vacation.

I came back from a two week vacation, which is why I was gone so long. I couldn't access wifi there so I had to bring a ton of games anyways.

Apparently there's been a large development in Signal timing, Otonomy, and some scientists have mostly figured out how to transplant stem cells into the human ear within the two weeks I was gone.

None of this is gonna help my tinnitus but it's great that were getting closer to fixing The majority of tinnitus cases. I wish progress would continue to be this fast.

 

Maybe take another two week vacation and there will be further developments!

 

Good idea I'll be gone until there's a cure then. See you in a month.

 

Why will not this help you? Do you have no hearing loss? The unknown cause of tinnitus?

 

If this forum, and this thread, has taught me one thing, it's that people with debilitating tinnitus are unbelievably resiliant and have a wonderful sense of humour.

 

We could start up a collection on TT: advance tinnitus research by sending threefirefour on vacation! It may be a better use of our money than giving directly to research funding.

Unfortunately nothing exciting happened while I was on vacation, otherwise I would happily volunteer myself for this important responsibility.

 

I wouldn't mind except things only happen when I'm without internet access. I can't live without that.

 

Your post reminded me of something that happened to me several months after losing my hearing. I had been avoiding friends and staying home. I was miserable and depressed, feeling I would never be myself again.

I finally volunteered to help with an event and afterwards was sitting at a table with understanding and caring friends. I tossed out a sarcastic joke, everyone started laughing, and for the first time in what felt like a long time I thought: I am still funny, I am still me.

 

That would be a big sacrifice. Hmmm. Better increase our funding efforts to really make it worth your while. Researchers will have tinnitus cured by the time you’re back.

Oh, if only it was that easy. In all seriousness, it was exciting seeing these new developments. Fingers crossed that it continues to be a good year for research!

 

I obsessively read about tinnitus research when I first got it. I did this for the first nine months or so and I even picked the brains of neurotologists that worked in tinnitus research as well.

I decided to stop doing that. One because at the time I gave up hope on a cure or treatment being found any time soon, and two because I figured I would rather be surprised by a breakthrough than live my whole life hoping for one when it didn't come.

 

When that had happened to me, I swore to never joke ever again, as the laughter hurt my ears. One of these days, my co-workers will leave me no choice but to ask them to try not to laugh when I am around.

 

While everything in the post above is true, it is still tongue-in-cheek. I will try to stay away from large groups of people who might be laughing, but that doesn't make me sad in any way.

 

It's not laughing that bothers me, it's loud people in general. Some people just do not know how to control the volume of their voices or they think being loud makes them the center of attention. I know it's not friendly, but I hate loud people.

 

Well none of my friends were laughing loud, but thanks for chiming in to add a dark cloud to a lighthearted thread.

 

That was me being lighthearted and joking (the joke Was based on an incident when I joked, co-workers laughed, and I immediately decided to never joke in the presence of other people again). It was a meta-joke.

 

For some reason I didn't get this notification. No I was tested for hearing loss 8khz and past, and I have no unexpected dips, and a lot of frequencies I should have lost. I do have TMJ disorder though, so that's the most likely culprit.

 

Apologies, I just come to expect Debbie Downer comments every time someone posts about a positive personal experience. Like the birth of a child or attending an event.

 

See, for Me both of those are examples of absolute nightmares.

In any case, people in this thread were joking, I decided to joke too. But the only humor I do (the only humor that makes me laugh) is dark humor. You are right, I should not have ruined a rare positive thread.

 

You know it's bad when even your jokes are dark clouds.

 

I think we could all chime in and get you a ticket in SpaceX. Maybe a couple of months of you in space and we're all set.

 

I could have gone with rain on our parade, but then again most of us likely avoid parades.
