Public Events with Tinnitus?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to deal with going to plays, sporting events and other loud events with this condition. I am sensitive to high pitched sounds and loud noises as well. I have tried ear plugs, but they haven't provided enough protection.

Last night I combined ear plugs with Bose noise cancelling headphones and this was no better.
