      This Monday is fireworks night in the UK and this is my first year with tinnitus and I'm scared it will permanently spike.

      it's more that the neighbours who's backdoor is right next to my window might set them off right outside my window

      @Hastune ,
      Try not to worry and just keep away from them.
      If you do go to a display then wear plugs and hood up .
      I'm in the uk and fireworks have been going off for a few days and my cat gets scared.

      Yikes... There is nothing you can do about that except maybe talk to them but that will likely not do a thing. Maybe go for a drive somewhere isolated?

      I don't go to public displays but the neighbours might set them off... which is why fireworks sales should be banned.

      Stay inside the house then. Go out for the evening somewhere quiet.

      Wish I was worrying about getting a spike and not actually worrying about the spike I have ongoing.

      Are you taking the mick?

      Some of us here are currently enduring spikes and you're worrying about getting one from a noise exposure you can easily avoid?

      Hire a car and drive into the middle of nowhere for God's sake.

      If you think it will be too loud, you can always wearing double protection. Earmuffs and earplugs should be fine. Can you move to a different part of your house that is farther away from the location of fireworks?

      It wouldn't work, as your ears would still be exposed to the noise.

      Place a foam mattress against the window facing those neighbours.

      I understand. Over here on July 4th there is a huge display right in our backyard. We live on the ocean and people hire a huge barge for a very unsettling display. Now, if you can imagine the noise level on the ocean and usually overcast? This is something I have to battle every year. I do so with earplugs and noise cancelling headphones. I have to close all the windows and shades.

      So keep your doors/windows closed. Use earmuffs and plugs.

      And yes it is something that is important to consider.

      @Hastune ,
      I'm sure you will be fine.
      Play some relxing music or see whats on tv and chill out.

      Have a friendly chat with your neighbours about your ear problem and tell them your worried about loud fireworks...they might surprise you and support you by not letting loud ones off.

      Sometimes it's nice to know your age as you could be a really young teenager and need more support if worried about an event .

      I think that it is rational for you to worry about this. This fear is healthy as it will get you to do everything you can to protect yourself. Hopefully in a couple of years some healing will take place and you won't need to take as many extreme measures to avoid a spike on this day.

      Note that it is a good idea to just spend the evening wearing earplugs (and muffs). Why risk being exposed to even one blast while not having any protection?

      I was wondering the same last night when a couple houses down, the neighbors were setting off fireworks.

      Nothing was too bad, but once and awhile there was a good bang. I was in my house, but I could still sort of “feel it” if that makes sense. It was at that point I just threw on my earphones to give some protection and it was over in 15 min :)

      If you’re in your house, and the windows are closed. I imagine tbat you would be fine

      Appreciate that really but I'm sure you're intelligent enough to think of a solution. Close doors, windows, wrap several towels around your head over industrial ear muffs and hide under a mattress.

      Think about how much tinnitus parliament would have had if Fawkes had succeeded. Diabolical!

      Why don't you just ask your neighbors next time if they are doing fireworks? Then you can make arrangements in advance to be elsewhere.

      The history of England from Henry 8th through Charles I is incredible.
      Reformation, Bloody Mary, Catholic Plots, Elizabeth I, Sheakspeare, Spanish Armada, John Dee, Mary Queen of Scots, Francis Drake, King James Bible, Oliver Cromwell. Super amazing and action packed. Good luck with Brexit. Brexit = brittish exit. What a stupid word. You're leaving the european failed revival of the Roman empire, that's awesome. Just like Henry 8th except with a better reason.
