I have Starkey Hearing Aids paired with my iPhone. I like the Starkey Relax App masking sounds for my tinnitus.

I use the True-Link App to control the volume of my hearing aids. Here’s my question:

The True-Link App can be set on “Normal” or “Stream Boost.” I don’t understand the difference between the two and which setting I should use.

My audiologist said the “Stream Boost” controls the masking sounds and the hearing aid. “Normal” means you control each one separately. However, I don’t see the hearing aid volume go up when I raise up the masking sounds.

      Hi Ambassador,

I read the article but it’s still not clear what the difference is between “normal” and “Stream Boost.” I tried to use Steam Boost today for Relax App and it was too intense for me. I changed it back to “Normal.”

I will try the Widex app. Thanks!

Val, You're not alone in that, from some of what I read nobody is clear on this. Sometimes the differences in programs in hearing aids only vary by very small increases or decreases.

I'm in the process of being re-evaluated and having my Phonaks reprogrammed to better match the changes in my hearing loss. The audiologist was able to print out the entire history of how my hearing aids have functioned over the course of the last 3 years and it's represented by a graph.

They can self adjust according to surroundings. In the car, watching TV, conversation, etc.. I probably was told they can do that but I never noticed any difference because it's so subtle but I suspect that's exactly what the manufacturer wants, for you to not notice the difference.

These digital hearing aids performance is pretty much up to each audiologist and how they program them. I was real happy with mine but he's relocated and recently found a new one and I am very happy with the "improvement". This one is much more up to date on tinnitus.

I think normal gives you the setting for amplification to each hearing aid.
Stream boost is for setting your sound but no option to increase it as its set to level you can hear so not to hurt your ears but allows you to increase amplification of the earing aid only.
      Hope that helps.

Very interesting information. Let me know what your new audiologist says about Stream Boost.

My audiologist had to experiment with my settings several times until I was satisfied.
It’s programmed to react to the background noise.

I am due for an appointment soon.

Thanks, but that hasn’t been my experience.
I am able to change the volume of Stream Boost any way I want. I can change the hearing aid as well as the masking sounds.

      Still a mystery to me.
