      Hello,

Due to a big cut during my Clonazepam withdrawal I got a bilateral very mild hissing two months ago. I already had mild tinnitus in my left ear since 2018 (no hearing loss and unspecified cause). I'm trying to identify the culprit of this spike.

      - I started to take 240mg of L-Theanine four days ago trying to rebalance GABA levels.
      - I had my first physiotherapy session for my contracted neck and shoulders.
      - I began aerobic exercise 5 days ago but stopped three days later due to pain in my knees.
      - I started smoking (yes, something stupid) a month ago, though only 3-4 cigarettes a day.

What do you think? I suspect of L-Theanine causing an unexpected and inexplicable adverse effect. Thinking about quitting it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

      Regards.

I take 100mg of L-Theanine almost every night to help with sleeping. It has never made my T worse.

I got a spike from L-theanine. It went away however a day after I stopped using it.

Pink, did you take L-Theanine during several days until you got the spike or it happened after the fist pill? Why did you take L-Theanine, to rebalance GABA or anxiety?

Just curiosity what's the cause of your tinnitus? Maybe due to benzos?

      Thanks a lot.

      Regards.

the cause of my tinnitus is due to loud noise, but I took it for anxiety. I took it for a couple days before I pinpointed the spike because of L-Theanine. I spiked I think the day after my first time taking it though and I just didn’t immediately contribute it to L-Theanine.

Of the reasons you listed, l-theanine is the least likely cause I think. Some people (many actyally) don't get a calming effect from l-theanine, instead they experience adverse effects. Maybe this could have something to do with it if you haven't tried l-theanine before

Maybe a lower dose during several days would help before start taking the usual (200mg) dose?

      Thanks!

      Stop the smoking.

Seriously smoking is one of the most toxic things you can deliver to your nasal and auditory system.

Theanine is an NMDA agonist which makes it bad for tinnitus. It’s the reason Magnesium helps some, it’s inhibiting NMDA receptors.

      Thanks for the reply Matthew.

What's your opinion about Bacopa Monnieri?
      I'm planning to try it.
