Hi John and welcome to TinnitusTalk!
I lost all hearing in my left ear suddenly three years ago. I also experience these split second surges, though not as often now as I did in the beginning. They will most often occur when I first stir in the morning until I become fully awake. During the first several months, this happened daily and I could hear and feel these surges 20 or so times before becoming fully conscious. They remind me of electrical shorts somehow but they don't hurt. When I am in a quiet room, an unexpected sound might also trigger this surge.

      That also triggers the surge.
      An unexpected sound
