Time Sensitive Situation — Prednisolone

Hello, I need advice from any one who knows about prednisolone.

Background: I've had tinnitus for about 1 year now as a result of too many ototoxic medication.

Two weeks ago I was playing headphones in my ears far too loud and this resulted in reduced hearing in my right ear immediately.

I have aquired a supply of 15 days of prednisolone (including a taper).

Should I take these drugs, will they be effective for my hearing loss?

 

Two weeks later wont make much difference to your tinnitus .
15 days is a lot to take but make sure you reduce down 5mg every 4 days...lots of love glynis

 

Do you know that you have lost hearing? Have you had an audiogram?

 

Could NAC help (N-AcetylCysteine)? I recall reading that it can help if taken right after the acoustic trauma.

 

His acoustic trauma was two weeks ago, hardly "right after".

 

I am going for a hearing test on monday (two days) time. Ive read that the drug, it can have in impact in some cases up to a month after so im just going to give it a shot. Hearing loss and tinnitus at 19, wow it's unfair, i would gladly have this even worse at 25 if i could just have my early twenties free.

NAC i do have at home, it does weird things to my eyes and vision though so ill be passing on that.

Take them. There really isn't much else.

 

Don't know if any of you guys experience fleeting hearing loss, it's like a 20 second spike in my Tinnitus but I lose hearing AS WELL what causes this?

 

I got it sometimes, with no obvious trigger. Some have put this down to middle-ear myoclonus, which often accompanies tinnitus and hyperacusis.

 

Be careful with self medication. The main thing is not to make things worse. You are young and your hearing will probably recover naturally as could your tinnitus.

Had a hearing test yesterday. The left ear has improved since 4 months ago and the right is roughly the same. Basically no hearing loss apart from a 10 db dip at 2k hz. I want to get of prednisone as soon a spossible but already feel withdrawel symptoms sore muscles etc. How long should a taper last because this stuff makes me aggresive and anxious.
