I would appreciate any insight what's the probability of tinnitus going away after one year.

I never say never as we all have hope.
Tinnitus has lots of causes and spikes and hearing loss with age or due to problems so we just have to see what life throws at us and protect our ears when needed.
I just wish tinnitus was taken more seriously..lots of love glynis

Is it over a 50% probability or less for it to go away after a year? Guesses?

Low but it completely depends on the cause, your lifestyle and magical mumbo jumbo that science tries to decipher as we mostly have no idea how T works.

Don't give up hope as it could go away depending on what caused it.
If not ,you will adapt over time and get good days mixed in..lots of love glynis

About as much chance as getting out of quicksand if you're in it up to your neck. Miracles happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

I've known a lot of people who had T for 6-24 months and had it go away.

You're not very likely to run into people like that on this forum, that's for sure though!

I hope your T fades away into oblivion, for both you and me if I completly honest, every time I see someone T fades away give me hopes that maybe one day, mine will fade aswell.

You are looking for a number no one can really give you. There are so many variables from case to case and even if we had answers for all of them there would still be unknown factors. But if you are looking for hope there is always that. I believe what is more likely than your T going away is your body may adjust to it so that it is barely noticeable or must be searched for to hear.

Good point. You are not likely to find people that have been completely cured to be hanging around in these forums.

The cause of T is physical damage to the auditory system. Gravely damage to the cochlea and the nerves inside of it.
Can T resolve after months or years? Perhaps. But what are the chances?
Think about it, how do nerves interact? They send electrical signals. And there lies the solution to the problem! But I digress, I'm not supposed to tell for it could alter the timeline.

I've never seen any statistics on how often it goes away, but it is at least known to happen.

My opinion though is if if a person has had it for a year or more, they should get in the mindset that it is permanent and not going away. They could be subconsciously holding themselves back from habituating and moving on from T if they are still waiting for it to go away.

There's no hab with reactive T. Period. Hab exclusively works for those with ultra mild T.

I had T for 4 years and it is gone. Not habituated, gone.

      Your chances are better if:
      -You're young
-The T was not caused by noise damage

Thanks for sharing your opinon. I try to steer clear of the negative ones because they don't help anyone learn to cope with anything. Someone saying your T is never going to go away after a year isn't something I care to read because no one knows for sure if it will go away or not. Sure the chances are less, but if they can locate the cause anything can happen. I'm 31 and suffering for 9 weeks now and my tinnitus was NOT caused by noise damage so I am hopeful it improves as time goes on.

As well you should. There will always be members here that push only their own negative view of recovery. I feel it is based on their own anger and frustration which they have every right to of course. Their projection however can be unnerving. It often manifest itself and presenting opinion as fact. Numbers be damn, there are reports on this very forum of people recovering from all types of tinnitus and at various intervals. Where there is one who has revovered there is a chance for another.

Thanks exactly what I was thinking.. There has been an increase in negative posts in the last day or two which do not do anything for anyone except scare and bring them down. I understand tinnitus is not a walk in the park (obviously, I'm living it and struggling with it too). I don't come here to be brought down on my own posts by overwhelming negativity. I come here seeking support/knowledge during difficult times. I'm not asking for anything to be sugar coated either but dang with the negaitivty. That doesn't help anyone with anything..

This time of year is tough on people, everyone is "going through it". We all have different ways of dealing. You just have to ignore negative people and stay positive.

I'm not sure what the cause was - it started suddenly and I have no hearing damage or loss. But it was aggravated by noise while sleeping, even soft white noise like a ceiling fan. Having a "rumbling" white noise youtube on even caused temporary hearing loss on top of the T, even though it was nowhere near a level that could damage hearing.

Cutting out all night time noise caused my T to slowly fade to nothing.
