Hi, im Joe and i suffer from tinnitus since 3/2014. It's really depressing. I can never cope with this symptom especially during the night when it times to sleep or in a quiet place. I've been lacking of sleep for the few months. My eye bag are like panda and i notice my tinnitus is getting a lil louder. I just hope i dont turn completely deaf :(. I always thought of ending my life to be in peace. I miss the sound of silence anyway. Why is this happening to me? I cant enjoy or do stuff i used to like anymore. I always pray that i will get cure one day. Thanks. Oh ya and i met my ENT specialist few days back he said theres is no cure for this and that really sad. Im crying right now.

and i got a few question to ask
How do you guys cope with it at night?
Anyone have completely cured by tinnitus?
Any SG whos suffering from this too?
      Thanks

@joemangaboy sorry to hear about your t. Ask your doctor to give you something to help you sleep...
      I work in sg
My t also recent. .. ent are useless when it comes to t..
Try melatonin it helps with sleep
You can order it over internet.. I am in india now will be back in two weeks plus time.. I ordered mine from iherb.. There delivery is fast via dhl..
Try playing some soft music to mask the sound or keep the tv on... keep the volume just enough to mask the T.

Also try acupuncture it helps.Sometimes. .
How exactly you got your T ?

Hi Joe,I've had this condition fair while,It can just stop as fast as it began,so don't wind yourself up to it,it's an attention grabber,it's the brain wanting you to listen to it,hence your sleeping problem.
I learn real quick not to let it draw me in,or I'd have been a complete wreck at sleep time,I go to bed when I'm tired, and I'd had enough of the hissing for the day.If you go to bed and still can't sleep, then get up,don't lay there,(it won't help ). Do some job ironing etc. Then go and try sleep again.,give it time it will come sleep believe me.
I sleep 8 to 9 hrs every night, sound sleep to,if I wake for a drink I don't hone in to the tinnitus, and I'm straight back in to sleep mode again. There are sleep speakers to put under your pillow, people have had benefit from . Look on the tinnitus shop, also relaxing music on your I Pad that helps,it will all go to distract you from listening to the tinnitus.
Everyone learns coping skills at night,my trouble is daytime mostly.still working on it.So Joe your not on your own millions with this, always remember that. Will be thinking of you .Sending you the biggest of hugs.

Hi nogood. Is there a reason why you buy melatonin online? There are many retailers selling melatonin in Singapore.

      Hey Joe,
God Bless you. You must know you are not alone. I've had T for 15 years now, the last 5 of which were quite bothersome and the last month has been absolute hell. I've been crying for the last few days - it is that bad. I cried just 10 min ago with my mother on Skype on the other end. Sometimes I am almost ready to take my life, but I have someone I love so much and I do not see or cannot imagine how he would live without me. It's my Dog, his name is Maximus he is 2 years old yellow labrador. I brought him up since he was 8 weeks old, and we lived together for 2 years now. Just me and him in the flat. He is holding me back in this world, as long as he is here, with me - I am sticking around. :) What you are going through right now is very very tough, but you must (as well as myself) - we both together with every sufferer must learn to live with it. I know some people say they have bad spikes which last a day, week, month or more, but as long as I know it goes back to the benchmark level (acceptable level). I used to have spikes, but only a day or two. It would always get back to acceptable levels. But last 4-5 weeks ... I am going through absolute hell, one day is good, another 1 or 2 are bad; vicious cycle. On one day, the meds help, on the other meds have no effect. I am taking propanalol 20mg in the morning, 20mg in the evening + 10mg each time of Sonapax. I started with 10mg of propanalol in the evening only...
It seems like it is getting worse. But it is also important to realize it is getting worse only because you wait for it to get worse or you just get exhausted and tired of it, and you always pay attention to it. I, for example, on a bad day listen to it every fucking second. And I haven't learnt to ignore it on bad days yet. But every fucking nano-second my attention is turned to T. This is what makes it worse, nothing else. I strongly believe it's all about stress management. T always responds to the stress levels. You must try all possible stress management techniques, massage, yoga, sauna, sport etc.

Hang in there, let'd do it together.

I guess TCM is worth a shot for T. I have a friend who tried accupunture with no effect. As for other issues, TCM takes time to see effect. Do ensure they are licensed. Stay away from those who ask you to sign up packages with them.

Tried acupuncture. . No effect.. I started acupuncture at first few weeks after onset of t for 14 days... may be it helped me with anxiety issues. . Then did hbot for 20 sessions which did help to reduce the volume.. esp during day time.. its almost not noticeable if walking out in public places. .

My guess is that I have allergic issues or viral infection along with etd.. my right ear is very itchy from inside.. esp in cold environment. . And it keep gets blocked cause of dried mucus. . For now I am taking serrapeptase to help thin out the mucus and inhale steam two three times a day.. I read that nac also helps in controlling the excess mucus formation..that is why I want to give it a try..

Marlene I am at boon lay.. I will give tcm a try, but need to look for a good doctor and it's bit expensive here.. as shan suggested need to be careful in choosing them. Aside that I am also unfamiliar with tcm..
And shan thanks for the tip.. I did experience the same with acupuncture doctor, but I guess that is the way it works need treatment for long term.

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone in SG is still monitoring this thread? I am a sufferer for 5 years but it is really bad now. Worried I won't be able to work soon. Acupuncture etc. isn't helping. I'm from China, new here. I'd think it would be good to talk to others in a similar situation. How are you coping now? Anyone tried treatment at the hearing centre or the hearing solution group?

@Vicky84 Hi Vicky. Hearing Centre and Hearing Solutions are companies that sell hearing aids. Ultimately, what they can offer you for tinnitus is just neuromonics treatment.

Hi, does it work? How are you coping? I've been going to TCM and Western doctors for months but no relief. It is just getting worse, louder and harder to sleep. How do you survive?

@Vicky84 I didn't try it because I felt that it was too much money for something that can be achieved with sound apps. Mine got worst over the years but I have habituated again except the few times I got anxious over it. I have gone to a few ENTs but I got sick of their standard script. Having a sound app at night helps. The volume fluctuates but I just do my best to protect my ears - putting ear plugs in any noisy or potentially noisy environment. Hang in there.

Hi Joe, I am from Singapore and like you, I have the same condition. I have ringing in both ears and head. No hearing loss. I have continuous high pitch ringing the can go very loud.

I am also searching for some ways to lessen the sound.

Please share if yours is getting better..

Hi @michaelchin and Welcome to TT...

As you probably will see if you search through the threads, those internet "miracles" are just plain scam luring desperate people into spending silly money for stuff you can easily learn and find on this great Forum which for me is the only real miracle for Tinnitus sufferers on the net.. :)

Your T is very recent, do you know why you got it ? Acoustic trauma, meds...?

What most people suggest at the onset of T is a course of steroids which has to be done in the first couple of weeks.. I didn't have the chance as I did not know about it when my T came ringing on... Maybe try and speak with an ENT as soon as possible to see what he/she thinks about it...

Otherwise, for your sleeping problems I would suggest some masking, you can find plenty of different white/pink sounds to cover your T while falling asleep as it helps to shift your focus from your internal sound to an external one and it seems to help most people.. I use fire sounds when I need it :)

Other suggestions could be to look for threads about natural remedies like magnesium, NAC, gilko bonka ect.. as some members find them to help relax and fall asleep..

Lots of stuff to learn around here, so do look around and wish you best of luck... Who knows your T might resolves on its own anyway..

Take care of yourself and your ears !

Hi! I got tinnitus in February and just yesterday I thought that I never would be able to live with it. But, I have come to the conclusion that as long as I don't hear it when I'm not in quite invironments then it doesn't really bother me. I am slowly getting to the point where I accept my T and that is the only choice we have. Stay strong!

Now i am waiting to have a mri on my ear scan. Some how after the post trauma i am starting to cope with it .The only problem now is to get enough sleep. I am not bother by the t at night but i still can't sleep well .Can anybody help me out on sleeping ploblem. Thanks

      Hey @michaelchin

I am sorry to hear about the dumbness on your ears, but happy that you are starting to cope well with T..

About the sleeping issue I guess we all have our own strategies.. If it isn't much the T that keeps you awake but the anxiety or thinking too much about it, I would suggest you firstly to try and make your body and mind more tired by exercising more, adding new sports/hobbies to get you tired by the evening.. I swim a lot, do indoor rock climbing, yoga, bicycle anytime I can, so that when I finally lay in bed my body just wants to sleep... So get out there and work out as much as you can.. It can only do you good and not only for your T :)

Secondly I would look into natural remedies for sleeping like chamomile tea, magnesium and other you can find on this forum or on google.. Do a bit of "trial and error" 'til you find what's best for you..

Thirdly, if you still have difficulties, maybe you could speak with your family and doctor for some sleeping meds, but I would use it as a last chance if nothing else worked.. Give a bit of time to exercise and natural remedies first :)

Lastly, I found a great help for falling asleep in "surrendering" to the T while I lay to fall asleep.. Some kind of meditative "acceptance" of it, kind of "embracing" it and "make peace" with it.. I don't know if it makes sense and I don't find the right words for it, but if you learn to "observe" the T without emotions attached to it, well by then you probably will have achieved habituation..

best of luck on your T journey and keep us updated !!

take care of yourself and your ears !!
