How can I apply for a team?

If you have a skill that you think could be helpful for our cause (even a small, simple sounding skill that you do not think much of can be very useful so do not be shy!), and you would be able to volunteer a bit of time on a frequent basis, just enough to make a difference:

Please send us a message with:
      • Which team(s) interests you?
      • What skills and experience you have? Any examples you can show or share?
      • How much time (on average) do you foresee to be able to volunteer?

These are the teams, with a brief description:

      Team Awareness:

Helping to spread tinnitus awareness, publicity, advocacy, working with charities, spokesperson stuff, communication with the forum about what's going on behind the scenes....

      Team Research:

Involved with things like finding / evaluating evidence for treatments, surveys and questionnaires, digging deeper into stories to understand things further....

      Team Tech:

Internet, SEO, code, any desktop apps, video / audio production....

To get a better idea of what experience could be useful, see this post.

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are very open to ideas, suggestions, whatever.

We want to do things that can make a big difference for us and also for the newbies so they don't waste as much time and money as we have chasing rainbows.

Do you have certain specific talents or a specific educational background? Would you like to put your talents to good use on an ad-hoc basis? If so, TinnitusTalk could use a few volunteers who would be willing to help out with specific tasks/projects, if/when the need arises. The tasks would typically be quite simple, non-time consuming, and time-bound. Examples include:

      1) A lawyer helping out with the wording of a disclaimer.
      2) A pharmacist reading a research paper on the pharmacological mechanism-of-action of a drug.
      3) A project manager overseeing a one week project such as a petition.
      4) "Number crunching" a simple data set

It is not certain that there will ever be a need, but any volunteers with the following backgrounds would be highly appreciated:
      • Pharmacist
      • Doctor
      • Lawyer
      • Mathematician
      • Financial controller
      • IT Programmer
      • Internet marketing
      • Public relations experience
      • Project management experience
      • Video editing/production
      • Experience with political lobbyism
      • Knowledge of-/background in- politics at local- or government-level
      • Senior leadership role in large corporations
      • Veterans of the United States armed forces
      • Spreadsheet "gurus"
      • Graphic design
      • Web design/development
      • Social media campaign experience
If you are interested in volunteering and would like to make a difference, then please consider this possibility and reply to @Markku with a comment or two about your skills.

      Thank you.

I PM'd this to @Markku as well, but I am a financial controller by trade. With our combined controller/law/website design/audio mixing skills, we could build ourselves a pretty amazing one-stop shop for all things everything! And then we could all work from our home office with all the sound masking we desire. :D

I can join Team Research. At the very least I can look at smaller-scale research studies like the one I may participate in and read details of completed studies.

      I'm great at kid-wrangling ;) haha

I do have a background in admin, and I'm pretty good with formatting etc. I'm constantly picking up the mistakes in menus, letters etc and thinking how to make it easier to read.

Obviously that's not up there with doctors and lawyers, but if you need someone to cast an eye over something it could help out.

It's just a talent pool that we hope to grow and hopefully these generous and talented people can be of help with future projects and needs we come up with and face.

Thanks to everyone so far! I'm truly humbled by so many wanting to help out.

This thread will never "expire", so new talents are always welcome!

I am just a TT-member here. So... essentially you would need to raise that question with the staff of TT. It's their website, not mine. They set the strategy and the raison d'être of the forum. But... anyone is of course welcome to add suggestions. And that's what I did with my original post, above.

However, the underlying idea is that people can contribute with more than just a monetary membership donation; you can also contribute with your input and ideas. And while it does mean a bit of work in some cases (eg. contacting a professor or two, speaking with an otology pharma-CEO, or writing an e-mail to the health authorities), there is a "reward" in return: knowledge and influence. And yes, the knowledge and influence may be very small to begin with, but if a person is persistent and displays integrity with the contacts, that knowledge may well grow over time. I have been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes initiatives over the past year. A lot! And I have shared more detail about that in the off-line workgroups - and as a consequence, here are a brief couple of anonymous one-liners people have said in relation to information I have provided:
So there is a reward for getting involved with TT-activities: you will get closer to some of the things that "really matter".

As with anything in this world, influence is key. And influence can be obtained in several ways. One way could be to raise funding for the site. Money has a tendency to attract attention. Suppose TT was able to raise - who knows - $10,000 and hand out a research grant to a professor pursuing tinnitus research, that professor could probably be convinced to join the forum and provide insights on some of the research taking place (on an ad-hoc basis). Right now, the site does not have any researchers - and I have tried several times to lure professors onto TT, but for them, that would just mean more work, so... it is not really an attractive option (from their perspective). But money can change that. Because whether we like it or not, it is a capitalistic world we live in. And honestly, raising $10,000 would be a "piece of cake" for a dedicated fundraiser. Yes, I know that people always say fundraising is hard. And that may also be true, but if a hardcore fundraiser was to really dig in to all the possible grants that might be available out there or start a fundraising campaign, it can really start to add up. It just takes a bit of research, a bit of work, and a bit of persistence. "Piece of cake", really. And anyone can be part of such a process. Anyone. And I can guarantee you that Markku and Steve H would be most grateful for your work.

Musician/audio engineer/composer/front end web development. We now have 3 potential audio engineers though I would say I am more experienced in a composition/production aspect of music/scoring. I have my undergrad in performance and a collection of unused tracks I'd be happy to give. I also have been diving into coding and working pretty hard because I can't perform as much thanks to T. I think there are probably many coders better then me here but I'm willing to help.

I can help with Team Tech.
Audio production and Web development (front end).
I will pretty much do anything I can. TT is the best.

      @Markku
Software consultant/architect/front-/backend/.NET/Computer Science master/passionate coder here. I love tackling complexity, I love using modern design principles and tools, I love declarative and beautiful code, and I love how all the disciplinces of great software have parallels to math, abstract problems and basically the way, you see life and information. It's a gift to our generation, that we for just $2,000 can get a device, that supplies creative people with endless opportunities.

Sorry for the emotional preaching, I was actually not trying to sell myself :) I was trying to emphasize how devastating tinnitus can be to a person, who devoted his life to this. Which explains the motivation for me wanting to do a difference for T (related to your motivational post, @attheedgeofscience )

I would love to help out, if I could provide any value. I would belong to

      Team Tech
      - .NET & website development (unfortunately no XenForo/PHP experience)
      - Computer Science degree and a bunch of years as consultant.
      - I could help with questions like "how can we build this?" or "would this technology be able to help us with goal X?" and do some coding.
