Has anyone experienced tinnitus that seems to stop when you close your ears with your fingers?

I have had high frequency tinnitus for years. After a while you sort of get used to it.

But recently I started hearing a different noise at night. It seems to stop when I close my ears with my fingers. But I know it's not an environmental sound.

      Sound familiar to anyone?

Same here. When i put my fingers in the ears (pushing the air in the ear), my tinnitus stops. It always stops with positive or negative pressure in the ears.

Its the proof for me, that my Tinnitus in the ears not in my brain.

Yup, some T is in the brain, another is in the ear.

Yes, and this maybe means that ACRN Neuromodulation and Leniere will not help me!? But i can get residual inhibition when i play my tinnitustone with my smartphone.

My hope is, that there is a chance to fix my ears. Sometimes i feeling a fullness in the ears. And i have cracking sound when i wiggle with my ears or i gulb.

If you can stop your T when you stick your fingers in your ears, it would indicate that your genesis isn't in the areas where ACRN or bimodal stimulation act, so it would seem reasonable to assume that these treatments would not be a great fit.

The good news is that there is probably another treatment that is easier to test.

It does sound like it could be related to a middle ear issue indeed (pressure, etc). Look into ETD and other middle ear issues.

Having tinnitus which originates in your ear might be more curable than one that resides in the brain if you can pinpoint its direct cause and address it. I'm not in the camp that bimodal devices will help with brain tinnitus but I hope I'm wrong.

If you want a big steak go ahead and eat it. I don't believe that diet has that much to do with tinnitus as it seems to have a mind of its own. I eat whatever I want with low or high tinnitus and generally makes no difference one way or another.

Your tinnitus is probably somatic. Tinnitus that is subjective in nature does not stop when you close your ears, rather it gets louder when you do so because you are reducing the contrast between the background noise from the environment and your tinnitus. If your tinnitus really stops when you close your ears, you should try using earplugs and see if that causes you to hear silence.

Have had tinnitus since 2014, the Docs said live with it. No one has ever testet if it is maybe objective tinnitus.

Had two MRI of my Head/Neck in 2014.
Now, after habituation, I give it another run to fix my tinnitus. So I checked the MRI-Neck-Scans from an orthopaedist this year - I have Osteochondrosis (I was 30 years old when the scan was made) in the cervical spine.

      Have an appointment in the
University hospital "Charite Berlin" next month. Maybe they can find something in my ears.

I don't know if they have possibilities to make an image of the eustachian tube or the stapedius muscle?! Maybe the stapedius cannot vibrate when I apply the pressure, so that the tinnitus goes away.
Maybe this cracking sound comes from something that is in my ears that don't belong there.

My tinnitus is a constant humming 1,5kHz left ear an 4kHz morse code right ear.

All docs before only looked normally into the ears, nothing more. Maybe a ballondilatation can help.

Perhaps try to find help with a doctor who is willing to experiment with you, for example examining your ear before and after you apply pressure and see if there is any noticeable change via imaging.

IDK why but this kind of info makes me feel so much better and gives me hope that there will be a cure sooner rather than later. My husband is convinced that Stem Cells are the cure it is already happening, I just need to go see a doctor. Although he could be saying that as a way of reducing my anxiety around it.

I don't get it that a tiny mouse can make a grown man scream either. Maybe you are not a man??

They were talking about eating steak weren't they? I thought of steak-uums cause I used to like them on toast. Just thinking if they still made them. I guess they do. I ate a NY strip recently....my favorite cut.

I have the exact same problem. I have t in my right ear and it stops when i plug my finger in it. I have a custumized earplug with a big whole and when i put this in my ear the t is also gone. When i have the flu or a cold the t is less. I think it has to do something with my eustatian tubes. I can move these and sometimes i can make them crack. My t is a very loud beep. Next week i go to a docter who may be want to inject something what causes more swollen eustatian tubes. So a little bit like a flu. I hope that works. He first will make ct scans from my tubes.

Did you ever find out what caused the tinnitus that you could silence by pushing your finger into your ear canal? I have the same...
