I know everyone’s Tinnitus is different, but yours sounds a lot like mine, my tinnitus came at a stressful point in my life when something had happened to me, two days later I got tinnitus and it’s not went away. Very high pitch hiss, some days mine is louder than others, been having more louder days here lately though.

Sorry to hear that. I still have to get some tests done, but I'm most certainly sure that I'm gonna get the tipical phrase: ' can't help you, you have to learn to live with it'. I currently have kidney stones and have a catheter inside me. Bit of coincidence getting my T in the middle of this mess.

Does anyone's tinnitus sound like there's sand climbing up the spine into your head? Does it mean that my tinnitus could be somatic, something related to my spine or neck muscles? I have this or the classic cathode TV sound.

Mine is high pitched like a jet engine .. I was just watching this youtube video
      Cirrus Vision Jet Departing Chicago...
and at 21:30 I had to stop it to check if my tinnitus was ramping up (mine can come on within seconds) .. but it wasn't me .. it was the video.

I get it in both ears and when it gets bad my right ear sometimes goes a bit deaf and feels like its got something in it ... for the first couple of months I was sure I had earwax in there and was always trying to get it out ... was surprised when the Dr said it was clean.

If I go outside at night in the quiet I hear this very low kind of sound, its hard to explain, but its like a big low pitched metal kind of sound ... I only hear that in the very quiet though.

mine is high pitched (9000 Hz) mostly in right ear..
since 2013 I got several "buzzes"..

I also got some slight "morse codes" since 2016
though I hardly hear those unless its quiet.. So, normally I have high pitched one.. doesnt bother me too much.

these days, when its quiet .. the buzzes become louder.. like standing outside a nightclub and you hear the beat and melee going on in there.. zoom zoomzoom buzzbuzzbuzzbuzz..zoomzoomzoom... etc..

      2008 sound?Meds?Not sure/Dec 20 2018 meds doubled the volume
For my first 10 years (2008-2018) I heard these bird noises and a “reeeeeee” ringing noise. Always constant but moderate in severity, and I heard the noises only in my ears, I had no serious spikes either.

In Dec 2018 my noise doubled in volume and from then until February 2019 it was a constant high pitched ringing. Then I developed hyperacusis and everything has since then gone mental.

Since that date it’s spread to my head and has been changing hourly or daily. It's a high pitched hiss, kind of like an air raid siren, crickets, steam kettle (kind of), strange electric noises come and go. Sometimes a combination of these sounds, sometimes only one.

I can usually hear it over the shower and cannot mask it normally.

I've had a high-pitched hissing in both ears since April 1996. I'm able to ignore it most of the time.

In July 1996, I started hearing a loud, low-pitched hum which is also a physical sensation, like a fluttering or vibration. This sound has caused me major depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts over the years. But unlike the hissing noise, this humming sound will mysteriously go away for periods of up to two and a half years. In fact, it recently came back after being gone for that long. It's now been back for over three weeks. I'm hoping it's temporary, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

      Left ear: 1,5khz whistling, 20-30db
Right ear: ca. 4hz Morsecode (beeping), 15-25db. Constant in loudness & pitch since the onset in 2014.
My Tinnitus is not high pitched, which i think it's good, so most of the natural noises covering my tinnitus through the day.
I can give me residual inhibition from my 1,5khz T by whistling with my mouth, because its nearly sound the same as my tinnitus.
I can almost silence my Tinnitus with negative pressure in my ears (inverted valsalva or press air in the ear with my finger and hold it), i can hardly hear it then. I do this mostly when i want to sleep and the Tinnitus is annoying me. It gives me a relief from the ringing.

My tinnitus sounds like an extremely high pitch squeal, which I believe indicates high frequency hearing damage/loss.

My tinnitus is non-stop screeching like a train trying to stop or that sound when you pull the end of a balloon out to squeal the air out. I hear it in both ears but my right side is often louder it seems. Specialists tell me it is not my ears though. It is my brain. I am often feeling very hopeless as it can be extremely debilitating.

      Yep mine too.
Its about 7500hz and hisses like a fuc*in snake.
It also reminds me of the sound Crickets make at night sometimes.
Im lucky now though as I do get some quieter days...today though its so so loud.
Trying to stay busy and wait for a better day.
Hope you all find some peace from this monster.

      Cause of Tinnitus:
syringing and now somatic T dental work
      @Frayact and some others.
Some possible involvement: This happened to me as described at the dentist causing somatic T and PT. When shaking head at times the humming part will go away for a hour or so. Sometimes when lying still in bed at night it sounds like it's coming from my throat. It has disappeared a couple of times and came back months later.

Somatic tinnitus, PT -humming. Mechanical compression during head rotation due to muscular and tendinous insertions, osteophytes, and arthritis around the C1-C2 level. As the vertebral arteries enter the vertebrae around C4, it can also occur at lower levels. As about 50% of C spine rotation occurs around C1, this is likely the reason for the predominance at this level. Araz Server et al (2018) reported reduced flow in the ipsilateral vertebral artery when the head was both hyperextended and rotated. Perhaps a position mainly encountered in dental offices, but it could be caused from sitting on a couch with muscle spasms within the neck. Usually tinnitus of other forms are already present and the associations are many, but often original tinnitus was caused by hearing loss due to noise exposure.

Dynamic cerebral angiography is the preferred method of documenting this diagnosis, but this is almost never done as it requires a substantial amount of contrast and radiation, and it rarely results in a positive finding. One would think that MRA done in 3 positions -- head right, head center, head left, would also be diagnostic, but there are no papers of this showing event history. In addition, while MRA does not have the radiation issue that CT does, it might require more contrast than reasonable. The hum will usually get louder with intercranial hypertension or by hypertension itself. The hum is coming from the brain and can sound like a refrigerator or generator running in the background. Sometimes in addition there's another sound that has a pattern beat. All this is harmless, but very annoying.

Mine is just this eeeeeeeeee type of sound but some times my left ear makes this ticking or clicking sound, which some times reminds me of a failing mechanical hard drive.
