What Kind of Job Should I Do? Can't Work Outside, Can't Drive, Can't Walk Around Too Much

I can't work outside because the wind makes my tinnitus worse.

I can't drive much because it makes my tinnitus worse.

I can't walk around too much because it makes my tinnitus worse.

My tinnitus has increased twice as loud in the past two years.


I really should be on disability (U.K) but it's **** money and people get treated like **** for trying to claim for it and are scrutinized constantly even when on it with there always being a risk of having their safety net taken away from them.

I have considered suicide over the past six months as I have little enjoyment in life now.

 

What is your skill set? If you're a techie there are lots of things that can be done from home. Software dev for example is quite common.

 

I am pretty useless really. Even more so with this. I used to be much more confident and I still am confident just more fragile now. I am very good with people, that would be my storngest skill, helping people and dealing with people. I was actually going to apply for a funeral operative job role but then I started thinking about the times when I would be outside in bad weather and I would have to use ear plugs and then I will not be able to hear anyone.

 

Do you have hyperacusis such as loudness abnormality or ear pain?

 

I do have hyperacusis but I had a job a year a go where i was working outside and within a couple of days my tinnitus became permanently worse from the wind.

When it comes to driving and walking it's vibration through my body/ears/brain that causes other ringing nosies in my ears and some of those noises stay there the same as my usual tinnitus screeching noise.

 

Hyperacusis is your problem if you get permanent spikes from wind. That is very strange.

 

Have you tried driving while wearing earplugs and noise-cancelling headphones (e.g., Bose 25)?

Sorry I meant, it might not be the vibrations, but the noise level in the car causing his spikes.

Believe me the ringing is coming from vibrations traveling through my body and if I wear earplugs when I walk I can hear the regular ringing in my ears correspond to each step. The high pitched noises which are more permanent are from noise and probably stress but have gotten progressively worse in what ever job I have tried to hold down in the past couple of years. I have to say that a percentage of my tinnitus is being induced by stress which includes my job, although there isn't much I can choose from job wise anymore. The only way it can get better is if I work from home some how or win a lot of money so I don't have to work and I can control my what I do with my body instead of being controlled by others. Or just travel to a Country where physician assisted suicide is still possible which I have been thinking about quite a lot on and off.

 

I would suggest looking into positions that you can work from home with before choosing the other option.
