      Hi all,

In trying to have the cause of my tinnitus diagnosed the only real treatment that I have been offered so far is to correct a deviated septum.

I do have a badly blocked nose all the time which the ENT says can cause me to grind my teeth (which I do badly) and as a result I feel like I carry a lot of tension in my jaw.

I have also read that teeth grinding can cause TMJ of which of course tinnitus is a symptom.

      So:

Deviated septum > bruxism > TMJ > tinnitus.

      Does this sound plausible?

If this is about right then logic would dictate that there is little use treating anything until I resolve the root cause which is the nasal issues.

I've been giving some thought to seeing a neuromuscular dentist as it will be quite some wait until I can get in for nasal surgery, but don't want to spend the money if it will be for no benefit.

      Hi helix,
Nasal problems can cause tinnitus and TMJ.
Try using a towel and bowl of hot water to clear your tubes and use a mucous linctus.
TMJ can be maid better by having a mouth guard made by a dentist or Maxilofacial specialist to keep your jaw in place, reduce teeth clenching and pressure on your jaw joints to reduce pressure in your middle ear and from inflammation causing tinnitus....lots of love glynis

      Thanks.

I have an appointment in a couple of days with a physiotherapist. The GP thinks this may help things while I get onto the waiting list for septoplasty.
