I know stress exacerbates tinnitus by heightening your perception of it, but I don’t know if it can trigger tinnitus. Reading up online hasn’t resulted in any clear conclusions so I’m wondering if any of you have found stress alone to trigger a tinnitus spike that hasn’t subsequently fallen back to baseline?

I’m asking this because I had a pretty big tinnitus spike around 12 days ago. I’ve had plenty over the years, but they all follow a similar pattern, i.e. they’ve all had a known trigger, e.g. unexpected noise exposure, and have all have receded back to baseline after around a week to ten days.

This last spike is different though in that there has been no obvious trigger and it has not yet receded, which is pretty darn depressing. I know my stress levels at work have been through the roof for the last couple of months, so perhaps this was the trigger?

Has anyone else had any similar experiences?
