When I say I can hear my T over something it's because my T is the bigger noise, i.e the chainsaw from yesterday. Is that what others mean? May 29, 2024 at 11:42 AM

When I say I can hear my T over things, I mean the sound doesn't mask the T, and I can still hear the T. My cricket/katydids sounds I listen to at night don't mask mine, but they help keep me from focusing on T when trying to sleep.

Its a way to objectively compare the severity in the suffering contest. Like if you can't hear yours in the shower that means you have mild T and have to bow your head and show respect to people that can hear it in shower.

I've started to wonder what people mean when they say they can "hear their T over something".

I think it means, does an external sound drown out the internal sound. Some lucky souls can’t hear their T over the shower or when they are in a noisy environment.

Someone next door is cutting down a tree with a chainsaw. I can hear the T over it despite having sound therapy noises playing.

My T currently sounds like a sped up, distorted, and of course obnoxiously loud version of the "duh-nuh, duh-nuh-duh-nuh" sound from Jaws.

I had habituation and I can tell you my original T was not mild. At all.

Another night of horrible pulsing roaring hairdryers in my head. Clonazepam really does do nothing now, even when I drink.

Yep. Like therapy, or a massage, or a doctors appointment. Just useless moments of total immersion in this auditory hell. Let me stay home and blast my water noises instead.

Sorry to hear that. I went through a sudden multi-fold increase in tinnitus 27 months ago. Any suspected cause for your recent worsenings?

Mine seemed to increasingly get louder and more volumes in the first 6-8 months of worsening. I’ve had quite a few stretches of quiet tinnitus since, ‘quiet’ being subjective

My problem is some kind of inner ear fluid issue, not just hearing loss. I didn't just lose hearing and that's it, dead ear. I often have this full, clogged feeling where everything is muffled. Sometimes it even hurts.

If I walk 20-30ft I get 20x volume for about 10 minutes. If I go for a 10 minute walk I'll spend the next 2 hours trying to calm it down.

For me it has been mild, usually 1h walk in woods would only mildly spike me. Now it seems to be getting worse. This is fucking unbeliveable.

If I stretch my neck to the left I get 20 x volume for as long as I hold the position. Clench teeth, press right side of head, same. We seem to have similar symptoms. Hang on my friend.

My Tinnitus is not spiked or made worse by noise. You might think that makes me lucky, but I'm not. It's spiked by MY OWN BODY MOVEMENT.

My T is usually at it's quietest when I wake up and I always lie on the bad ear. As soon as I wake up and start doing anything it ramps up. I used to have about an hour of reduced volume in the morning, not anymore tho.

@BlueMoon86 - I have the same. If I press on the right side of my head. Move my neck. Stench my neck. Clenching my teeth just slightly. All of it send my T screaming. Do you have pain or are you impacted by food. I have major impact with foods. It’s the worst part.

I can't modulate my T by pressing or stretching or anything. I know that if I stand, move my head, exercise or even swallow something it's going to ramp up. I don't have any pain and I try to stay away from too much salt and sugar.

I haven't seen many people report any benefit as far as tinnitus. Sometimes the masking sounds is just more noise on top of the tinnitus or can worsen reactive tinnitus. And then, the amplified noise can be bad for hyperacusis.

My FIL has tremendous benefit with a hearing aid. He had T very bad and now can go 2 weeks without putting them in and during this time he has no T. He claims it was hard at first but the sound lowered to a manageable level then disappeared. The only reason why he wears them now is to prevent it from returning. My mom’s friend’s husband wore hearing aids for 6 months and his T is basically non existent.
