I was going to go back to uni this year + get some life stuff figured out/started... truly cruel. All I can hope is that we get a cure/treatment soon. I'm still young enough to have a life after, but I'd rather get it sooner than later.

I can relate. Spent my youth studying in a field which caused me nothing but struggle and when I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, tinnitus came. I don't even know if I can finish my studies. Universe has a weird and cruel sense of humor.

@ASilverLight I'm really sorry to hear that. Yes, I hope so too. If there is a cure by the 2030's I'll be happy.

@Kriszti That really sucks, I'm sorry. It's so difficult studying with T. I'm finding it difficult finishing my dissertation. I hope you manage to pull through.

Completely understand what your going through. I just recently graduated University over a year ago and had my first job lined up then I had to quit my job due to hyperacusis. Fuck, life is so cruel.

In about 2-3 years you will likely stop being so sensitive to noises. Hopefully if you take a break for 2 years before looking for a job that won't have a negative impact on your ability to get hired.

@Lucifer That's awful :( do you still work? Thinking that I may have to get a quiet office job until things improve/a cure comes about.

@Bill Bauer Thanks Bill. I hope you're right. The H has improved since I first developed it, but not to the extent where I'd feel comfortable teaching six hours a day.

@Charburchar Can you offer one‐on-one lessons, until your ears are less sensitive?

@Charburchar no I’m currently on the benefit right now. I really hope FX-322 helps with pain hyperacusis. There’s a theory that the reason for the pain is due to OHC’s getting damaged and its leaking ATP and the type 2 nerve fibres are getting sensitised causing the pain

Have the same problem (without H though). Had to quit teaching when severe T took a hold on me. Maybe in a few years we can all fulfil our hopes and dreams with regen. medicine like @Lucifer said

Had to leave my job, too. Life was good. Shitty ears.

@Tweedleman for real tho. A year ago my life was looking up more than it ever had. Fun job and I was able to be promoted soon, finally found a social circle that liked me, figured out some pretty important personal things, was looking into college again, new hobbies.... and that's when misfortune strikes, obviously. I really hope all of us will get cured, or at least see significant reductions, within 10 years.

T and H improve even for most older people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. People in their 20s are probably a lot more resilient.

@Kriszti Yes that's definitely an option.

@Lucifer I'm sorry to hear that dude. I hope so too. I'm optimistic for the future with so many regen drugs on the horizon. The sooner the better, for all our sakes.

@Christiaan I'm sorry :( What did you teach? Do you think it's possible to teach with mild T?

@Tweedleman Man that sucks, I'm sorry to hear. Fuck this condition!

ey there @Charburchar . Yay, it's alright to work as a teacher with mild T. On what kind of school are you going to teach? I taught French and English at a secondary school. The kids were fun, but there were places that were off limits for me. Like the playground/schoolyard. There were lots of screaming and overexcited kids running around:)

Hey @Christiaan thanks for the response. I plan on teaching sociology at secondary school. I only have mild T and if my H continues to improve over the next year I think I'll go for it. I guess I'll just have to stay away from the playgrounds!
