      Hello everybody,

My story is not different from yours. I have T, suddenly came on with it for last one and half months.
And you got it right, I can't figure it out!! And dont know if it will every go away!

Having this problem opened up my eyes and changed my life. I have come to realize that even in the countries which have so called most advanced medical care and doctors, things can cripple you. And you will get NO HELP.

I have visited 13 doctors in last 45 days and guess what - NOBODY COULD TELL ME WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. Lots of mis diagosis and useless tests were run using my insurance. I AM PISSED!

Heres some of the things I have heard -
      (1) My GP - Theres no medication for T, go and live with it. (um....did you think you could offer me some anti anxeity or depressant ?? Do you have any knowledge about this condition or interest. Oh i see you are not concerned, correct ? By the way, she told me to take Ibroufen for inflammation....haa haa haa!!! Supposed to cause ears ringing)

      (2) ENT - Ears are fine, no hearing loss (sorry we are not concerned more than this, you gotta live with it)
CAT scan of sinuses are fine.

      (3) ENT 2 - Same, no hearing loss (You might have trigeminal nueralagia!, wow with no pain on my face, really!? Just with numbness and tingling ?)

      (4) Nuerologist - You are not having MS, no not Trigeminal either ....here take some Kolopin for anxeity
And heres a big blood test to run. (nothing to say at the end of it)

      (5) Dentist - You need to pull out the three teeth on the left, they are abscessed. You have Jaw arthritis.

      (6) Maxofacial Surgeon - Pulls out my tooth, no idea about my ringing. Rules out TMJ, though I can sense some tension in my jaws, but tells me I can open 39cm , so no TMJ.

      (7) TMJ Expert - I cant tell for sure if this is due to TMJ, but hey I have a 2000$ splint to sell if you want to try and see if it works! If not then the CPAP machine....

      (8) Accupunture - Sure, I can cure T, take 10 sessions.,....and oh by the way, I am curing you for Anxeity Disorder. (I have T, not anxeity disorder!!!)

      (9) Ayurveda - Useless fellow, told me I have stress! Ha! And sold me some medication and then ran away, does not talk to me anymore.

I CAME TO ONE CONCLUSION - NOBODY CARES! NONE OF THE DOCTORS I MET WANTED TO GO INTO THE BASE OF WHY I AM HAVING T. NOBODY EVEN ASKED OR WENT THOUGH THE LIST OF CONDITIONS THAT CAN CAUSE IT!

THEY DON'T CARE, AND THEY HAVE VERY LIMITED INTEREST IN SOLVING YOUR ISSUE. WHO'S GOT TIME ?? YOU ARE JUST A BILLING AMOUNT.

      SORRY FOR THE RANT.

      A DISILLUSIONED PATIENT,
      MITA

Bodies are complicated, nerves are poorly understood, and there are inherent shortcomings in treating medicine as just-another-industry.

Tinnitus is just one bullet point in a very long list of terrible and perplexing problems that do not, at present, have many cures outside of rare specific cases.

I'd say I'm still cautiously optimistic about the future. I've spoken to a lot of talented, dedicated and brilliant clinicians and researchers who have and continue to invest a lot of time and energy into understanding and trying to address our specific problem.

      Hello,

Thats nice to hear! Unfortunately I keep on meeting doctors who are just interested in running tests and bills on me. And in a funny manner, not interested in even giving me a diagonsis about the nerve thing on my face or my T!

Two people I would like to mention however is

      Laurie DeWine, Au.D, CCC-A
      Doctor of Audiology
      The Place for Better Hearing
      3302 Westbourne Dr.

      and
      Annie Rhoten
      Kentucky Audiology & Tinnitus Services
      1517 Nicholasville Road, #202
      Lexington, KY 40503

      (859) 554-5384

These ladies are audiologists and have tried to go into what all could be causing my T. I am truly impressed by thier efforts. AND I AM IN COLUMBUS, NOT EVEN IN CINCINNATI/Kentucky, SO NOT a FORMAL PATIENT. Specially Anne has spent half an hour going through the TRT benefits and giving me resources/suggestions. Laurie has emailed her colleagues describing my condition and symptoms and getting some answers.

But sorry to say, such people are rare. People who really care and would stop and listen and make a SINCERE EFFORT.

" But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one tenth of them." The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.

So thats all my friend - we need more people who would want to make a difference - to maybe just one at a time, even that would help.

I have a feeling they do not know all the causes....even the most simplest of them. The only people who could come up with a list were the audiologists I mentioned.
Its a drawback of the modern medicine, we treat each thing symptomatically, so the patient gets thrown around like a football between various specialist.

I had to wait for it for half a year but.... The tinnitus team at our University Hospital made a really good effort to get to the bottom of my T. I have free counseling every week now, go to a psychiatrist that specializes in T and am starting group therapy in a month. I'm also having hypnotherapy sessions every other week. The fact that the hypnotherapist is a habituated T. sufferer makes my sessions worth while. So I have to say everybody is trying. It just took way to long for the troops to arrive.

btw. I have a heart condition that nobody seems to understand either. So I lost my faith in medicine a while ago. The more I get in touch with doctors the more I find out there is so much they still don't understand and/or can't treat.

Where are you based ? Which University is this ? I was reffered for a TRT session, but it cannot happen before December this year because there is only one person who does it and the queue is long. I did not know there are phycratist that specialise in T! Wow!

My ENT and my MD stated you just have to learn to live with it.. With so many suffering with T you would think that research would come up with some type of meds that would stop it or improve it. Only relief I got was from xanax and habituation....

I hear ya buddy! The only relief I am getting right now is from an anti anxiety called Busripone....did you try to wean off Xanas ever, or still on it ? What a bit frustrating if that I need to do the research to find out what could be the cause...these people do not even have a list or suggestion....even the anti anxiety I had to suggest my GP.

Sorry to have to disappoint you Paromita. I live in The Netherlands. And even though all the troops are there my T still makes me extremely depressed and anxious. I take Xanax and Mirtazapine to survive.

Parometa, I take a very low dosage of xanax normally 0.25 three times a day or if a bad day which is rare I may do 0.5 two times and 0.25 one time per day. These are low dosage and seems to work for me. It lowers my T and really takes the edge off. My dad took xanax for years and lived to be 85 and my mother also did xanax to the day she died at 102 years old. I dont feel addicted to these low doses.

      Doctors?
They can give you Tinnitus but they just can't take it away from you though. Because they do not care about us.

So my answer is no. No doc gave a sh*t about my situation.
